When Damien showed Lauren the folders she was going to carry, her eyes widened like a saucer seeing the large pile of folders lying on the desk.

“All of them!?”

Her voice was so loud; that it could be heard in the secretary’s office.

Even Helen stopped what she was doing when she heard the sound of her voice. Anyway, back inside the office, Damien glared at her, as she realized how noisy she was.

“Yes, All-Of-Them.” He answered word for word with a deadpan expression.

“Sir, let me take some.” His assistant offered and moved to pick some of the folders.

“Stop!” Damien ordered.

‘Its best I’d do this in other to avoid any problems with him,’ thought Lauren and she said, “I-It’s okay. I can do this.”

“See George, she says she can do it.” He spoke nonchalantly before turning to Lauren reminding her with the following words in a conceited tone. “Of course you can. It says so in the contract. Now, take them and follow me.” He turned and exited the office.

‘What a jerk!’ She leaned forward to pick the whole pile of folders.
On the way to the conference room, Lauren wobbled with the weight of the folders along the way, while she followed the CEO.

“Oof!” She dropped the folders on the table with a loud grunt as soon as they entered the conference room. Hearing her grunt, he slowly he turned to her with a serious look.

“What?”

“Nothing, sir…”

“Leave!” He barked.

“Yes sir.”

Lauren turned, and scurried out of the conference room stretching and massaging her arms then stopped, heaving out then turned her body slightly facing the entrance to the conference room and snarled, “What kind of secretary lifts such heavy weight? He doesn’t even have a slight sense of compassion in him.”

Lauren had begun walking back to the office when her phone rang. She stopped in her tracks taking the phone from her pocket and frowned seeing the name, “Hawk” displayed on the screen and then answered, “Hello, sir.”

“Go back to the office and get the other folders on the far end of the table and bring them to me.”

“Si…”

Damien once again cut the call abruptly not letting her speak and Lauren huffed annoyed. It’s been a couple of hours and she was already starting to feel frustrated at the man’s behavior towards her. But what can she do about it; nothing. She let out a heavy sigh, shoving her phone back into her pocket and then made her way back to the office to get the remaining folders.

On her way back to the conference room, Lauren staggered as the pile of folders in her grasp fell to the floor.

“What the hell!”

She was bitter. She wanted to give it all up and let the worst happen. But then again, she thought about the type of person she was dealing with. The consequences she would face, and told herself to just endure it. It was only going to last for three months. Thinking that, she grunted in anger, and bent down picking the folders one by one, putting them together.

A man passing by approached her, rendering a helping hand. Lauren raised her head slightly and glanced at the person helping her.

“Oh, thank you.” Lauren said, as their hands moved picking the folders that were scattered on the floor.
