“What’s the matter, mom? Cat got your tongue?”

“Where did you get this?”

“How could you, mom? Just because I refuse to leave her, you set her up by making me believe she took money from you… why? Why is your heart filled with so much hatred and evil? You succeeded in shattering your husband’s life now you want to shatter mine too.”

“Son, you have to believe me I didn’t do anything…”

“Please mum, stop!” he yelled when Patience tried to deny having anything to do with the photos.

“Are you still going to deny the truth? Everything is already out in the open. All these while, I’ve done everything you said I should do. You’ve literally controlled my life since I was growing up. There were times I wanted to go against you but I stopped myself just to make you happy. And… now, now that I found someone I truly love and want to be with, you separated us just to satisfy your selfish desires.” He gave a bitter laugh that was almost like a chuckle.

“I’m such an idiot for letting you tell me what to do. Now because of you, I’ve lost her. What you did in the past is the same thing you’re doing to me too. You’re driving me crazy just like you did with dad.” Patience froze staring at him wide eyed.

“You think I don’t know you’re the reason he died.”

“Son, let me explain.”

“Don’t touch me! Don’t you dare touch me! You knew he had heart complications yet you chose to push him to do what he wasn’t supposed to do. As if that wasn’t enough, you made him kick my brother and his mother out of the house. After achieving all that, you still went ahead to torture dad to his death. I ask myself sometimes why God gave me such a heartless woman for a mother.” Streams of tears flowed down her cheeks as her body trembled.

“I’d rather prefer Victor’s mother to you. Look at me mum! My brother’s mother is a lot gentler than you. She treats me like I’m her real son. Why can’t you do the same thing? All you care about is wealth and status. I feel pity for you because no matter how much wealth you acquire, you will never be happy.”

She broke down in tears pleading with him.

“Please, son…” Patience cried reaching out to touch him.

“I SAID DO NOT TOUCH ME!”

She trembled at his booming voice. “Okay, I won’t. But please son, listen to me. I’ve regretted my actions and till this day, I still regret everything that happened.”

“Stop pretending, mom... the only reason I haven’t cut ties with you is because I thought you’ll change with time but… I guess I was wrong to think that. How about I leave you to pay for you sins?”

When Damien turned to leave Patience fell on her knees, her hands holding onto his leg and blubbered.

“No! Son! Please don’t leave me. I don’t want to lose you too.”

“The day you came between Lauren and me was the day you lost me.”

“Ah! Please son, tell me what I need to do. I’ll do anything. Whatever it takes to gain your forgiveness?” She begged.

“Bring her back to me. Till the day she accepts me I don’t want to have anything to do with you.” He wrenched his leg off her grip and staggered out her house leaving his mother in tears and full of regrets.

A couple of days later… while inside the dining room in Damien’s mansion, he had his head on his arms as he slept there. Before him were a lot of alcohol bottle which he’d consumed while he was locked up in the house.
