Alex trudged through the woods, following behind her sister and friend. Allison found something last night and wanted to test it before the girls went to find dresses.

"Allison , When you said you needed to stop for an errand before we went shopping , a five mile hike in the woods was not what I was expecting." Lydia seethed with sarcasm

"Before I forget, I wanted to ask if you're okay with something. Jackson asked me to the winter formal" Allison told her

"He did?" Alex asked

"Just as friends. But I just wanted to make sure you're okay with it first" she continued to tell lydia

Lydia hesitated "Sure. As long as it's just friends"

Allison nodded "Well, yeah, I mean - It's not like I would take him to the coach's office during lacrosse practice to make out with him or anything."

"Ouch" Alex winced, feeling the sting of Allison's sarcasm

Lydia gaped her mouth opened  "uh, about that -.."

"Don't even try" Alex shook her head, shrugging after "What's done is done right?"

Finally, Allison had reached her desired destination. She dropped the back she had been carrying and pulled out a cross bow and arrow.

"Holy shit" Alex exhaled

"What does that do?" Lydia asked

"We're about to find out" Allison replied,

She leaned the arrows against the string of the cros brow and pulled it back slowly. she released her grip and the arrow went spiraling towards the tree, as it hit its mark it announced itself with a loud bang, followed by spark flying from the tip, almost looking like fire.

"Wow" Alex breathed.

Lydia stood with wide eyes, wondering what on earth her best friend had discovered "What the hell was that?"

"I don't know." Allison answered blankly

"Well - that was fun!" Lydia exclaimed sarcastically

"Any more lethal weapons you wanna try out?" She asked

Allison stared ahead, staying quite as she focused on a sound she heard in the distance.

"Ally"

She turned around, handing the crossbow to Lydia "hold this"

"What? Why?" She asked

"Because I thought I heard something."

"So - what if you heard something?" Lydia asked. Eager to leave the woods

"I want to find out what that something is. Don't worry. It's probably nothing." She reassured her.

"You stay with Lydia" she pointed to Alex

"Why?" Alex asked

"Because if it's something you'll know what to do"

"It's probably nothing" Alex nodded

"Well, what if that nothing is something and that something is something dangerous?" Lydia asked

"Shoot it." Allison shrugged. She turned and walked away from the two girls to investigate further.
