Lucy seemed surprised for a split second, apparently not expecting me to know who she was. The resemblance was uncanny, though. She was the female version of Lex, with the same fine features, dark hair, gray eyes... I supposedly looked like Tyler, but our resemblance was nothing like theirs.

I realized she was still holding her hand out for me, so I promptly shook it, remembering it was how humans interacted.

"I am, yes," she eventually agreed. "Sorry, I wasn't sure he'd told you about our family. He usually pretends he doesn't have any."

"He spoke about you three with great fondness, and several times," I explained, proving her wrong. "And a little about Miriam. Not much about your father, though."

"Ah... The old man is a sensitive topic for all of us, to be honest. Especially for Lex."

We sat down and I took my jacket from the empty chair next to us to allow Lucy to sit on it. I settled it on the backrest of my seat instead, where my bag was already hanging.

Our waiter, who seemed to only have our table to take care of, given his readiness, was with us instantly, and he handed the menu to our new addition. She skimmed over the dishes, her gaze methodical and efficient. "Shelly, didn't you tell me their mimosas were incredible?"

"Yes, I used to order one every time."

"Alright, I'll have a mimosa to start. Andrea, do you want to try one with me?" she proposed, turning to me. I hesitated for an instant, tempted to accept. I'd been wanting to have one since checking the restaurant's website.

"Call me Andy, please. And yes, I'll gladly try one," I accepted, silently thanking the gods for this lucky opportunity.

"Perfect, two, then. And, isn't your pastry chef French or something?" she asked the waiter.

"Yes, he is, ma'am."

"Then a croissant for each of us. And I'll have the salmon and quinoa plate." She closed her menu with a dry 'thump' and handed it back before returning her attention to us.

Michelle shook her head with a contrite smile plastered on her face, her eyes slightly reprimanding. "A croissant, really? You know I'm trying to fit into my old clothes again, right?"

"Oh, please. Live a little. You've given birth to an entire human last month, and it barely shows."

"Well, it shows all right when I try to put jeans on."

"Vanity, your name is Michelle," Lucy joked. Before she could add to it, she was interrupted by our waiter, who brought us our drinks. It was served in fancy Champagne flutes, with a strawberry hitched on the side. "So, what were you two talking about before I so rudely interrupted?" Michelle and I exchanged an embarrassed look, and I picked up my glass to distract myself. "Oh... I really went in with both feet, didn't I?"

I gave her a small nod and took a sip of my drink. Oh, it was so good. Thank God Lucy had made it happen.

"It's great you could make it in the end," Michelle pointed out, steering the topic away from the elephant in the room. The elephant that could very well be sitting on our table, given how much room it was taking. "What made you change your mind?"
