Alexis POV

I looked at the phone, wide eyed, sort of like someone who'd just seen a ghost. It's been almost one year since we last saw each other. The last time I saw him was when we broke up... I wonder what made him call me?

Suddenly, the phone rang, making me spring up from my bed. The screen said "Eric Fuentel". Taking a slow, deep breath, I tried to steady my nerves as I brought the phone up to my ear.

"Hello?"

"Hey, is Alexis there?"

"Yes, she's speaking. Who's this?" I knew it was Eric, but it seemed like he couldn't recognize my voice, so I just went along with the flow.

For a few seconds, the other line was silent.

"Hey, it's me, Eric."

Oh my God, what should I say? What's up? Hello? Hi?

"Hey. What's up?"

"Nothing much. I just came back to Boston,"

"Yeah, I heard your message," I let out a shaky laugh.

"Umm, so tomorrow I'll be close by your coffee shop since I'm meeting a client and a longtime friend. What do you say we go for coffee and catch up?"

My mind went totally blank. Like TOTALLY. Na-da. I thought for a second if it was appropriate for me to be seeing my ex, now that I had a boyfriend. But then, it's good to part on good terms, right? I guess I'll treat this as a goodbye since I never got to do it back when we broke up.

"Hello?"

I snapped back to reality, my grip tightening around the phone. "Y-Yeah sure. When and what time?"

"I'm not sure yet, I guess I'll just show up. You get off at 4, right?"

Wow, he still remembered?

"Yeah. Umm, just text me when your coming. You still got my number, I suppose?"

He laughed. Oh boy, I haven't heard that in a while. "Yeah, I do. See you."

Chase POV

I sat in a dining booth at Earl's, impatiently tapping my foot to the rhythm of the song. Where was this guy? This was our first time meeting and already, he's showing bad signs.

My finger trailed up and down my glass, as I drew weird characters on it. I leaned back and smiled at the face I drew- Alexis. Her hair was huge and sticking up everywhere and she had two big teeth sticking out the front. Cute. It looked nothing like her.

"Ahem, excuse me, Mr. Chase Morgans?"

I looked up. Oh shit, he was here. Good job Chase, good job. Why don't you just keep smiling like an idiot?

I straightened up, adjusting my tie slightly. It wasn't even messed up, I just felt like I had to do it, for some reason. "Yup, that's me. Take a seat."

"Hi, I'm Mr. Fuentel, a shareholder for the Blaineford Industries, good evening." he greeted me with a smile and he held out his hand.

I stood up and we shook hands before finally taking a seat. "Shall we start?"

Alexis POV

I kept glancing at the clock, wishing 4 o'clock would never come. I'm not ready to face him. Maybe later, but not now. It's too late to back out..

A few minutes later, it was about 15 minutes to 4, so I decided to get ready to head out. As I slung my bag over my shoulder and stepped out into the cold, I heard a loud honk.

Startled, I turned back, wondering what moron would honk so loudly in a busy place like this. A man came out of a red corvette.

"Hey, Alexis!" he yelled while gazing at my direction.

"Whaaa? Huh?" I muttered under my breath. Was he calling me? I walked towards the mysterious man, only to find out it was none other than Eric.

Steady breath Alexis.... Calm, steady, deep breaths. You got this.
