Despite herself, Lorelei let out a soft chuckle. Nothing more than air leaving her mouth.
"Of course you would phrase that in the least delicate way possible." She said, her heart feeling a bit lighter now that the heavy lifting was out of the way.
James gave a chuckle in return.
Returning to their conversation, he asked, "Is that why you wanted to talk?"
Anxiety pounded quickly through her veins.
She nodded.
"I lied to you earlier." She admitted again. "The guilt was killing me James." She joked.
"Then why did you take off your day of classes if it wasn't for the hangover?" James asked, a somewhat confused smile still on his face.
Her brain short circuited. Thoughts scrambled desperately to form a sentence to say as she stared dumbly at the boy in front of her.
As her mind panicked, she couldn't help but notice it was so quite around them compared to how loud it was in her head.
The juxtaposition somehow made thinking awkward.
Desperate to fill the silence, she told him the truth. Effectively making her mind go silent. "James, I'd snogged you the night before and didn't realize it until the morning. I was panicked." She made sure to let out a soft chuckle, hopefully to keep the conversation as un-serious as possible.
Not getting the memo, James pressed. "But why?" He chuckled, although the sound didn't make his question any less serious, "You snog guys all the time, it can't have been that different for you."
Lorelei scoffed, "This was different!" She said, raising her voice.
"How? How was it different snogging me than it was to snog any other prat in the castle?" James responded, raising his voice as well.
"You know why!" She said back heatedly, ignoring the voice in her head reminding her that he did not.
The same voice that reminded her she did not.
"How am I supposed to know!"
Before she even realized she was responding she said back heatedly, "Isn't it obvious?"
Her own words were like being slapped across the face. Realization and horror to what she was implying overtook her anger and she barely even heard his reply.
James, unaware of her realization yelled back, "No!"
There were very few options Lorelei felt she had. And while confessing her newfound feelings was the most productive of her options, she decided to take the easy way out.
