"Lily, you don't have to go if you don't want to." James urged, concern reflecting off his eyes as he stared at the redhead.

Lily held herself in with her arms. Softly, she whispered into the quiet room, "But she's my sister."

Lorelei took a step forward and placed a hand on Lily's arm. "But you don't owe her your presence. She hasn't exactly been there for you."

Wiping her hand across her upper lip, Lily kept her eyes on the ground, "But it's her wedding. I haven't even met her fiance."

Breathing out harshly, a sound that bounced loudly in the otherwise still room, Lorelei looked behind her at James. Pleading with her eyes, she begged in her mind for him to say the right thing.

She barely even knew Lily had a sister.

"Perhaps it's a good idea for you to go." James said confidently, holding Lorelei's gaze.

Trying to read his expression, Lorelei didn't notice Lily looking up. "Really?"

James looked away from Lorelei, "Of course. In fact, maybe we all should go. You, me, Lorelei, Sirius, Remus, Peter - we can make an event out of it."

"I don't think that's such a good idea." Lorelei injected.

"Well we wouldn't want poor Lily to go alone, would we darling?" James shot back, raising his eyebrows in challenge.

Confused at the game he was trying to play, Lorelei responded with a bit of passion. "Lily wouldn't be alone, she has her parents."

"Well her parents are hardly companions, especially when they'll be fauning over Petunia. Come now, Lorelei, it could be fun."

Lily's soft, but firm voice cut between them, "Well not all of you would be able to come along with me anyway. I only have one extra invitation."

"I'll go." James volunteered, a bit too quickly.

"I will go." Lorelei said darkly, leaving no room for James to protest. Her words filled the room for several heartbeats as the couple stared at one another while Lily looked between them.

James broke eye contact. "Fine."

A sharp exhale from Lily drew both Lorelei and James's attention. "I am perfectly capable of going by myself. Have either of you considered that I might have an opinion on who accompanies me?"

"You'll have a better time if I go with you." Lorelei said with a dry smile.

James looked at Lorelei like she'd personally offended him, "Excuse you-"

"Oh hush, both of you. I'm going alone. It's my family, and honestly it won't be eventful." Lily said firmly. There was something refreshing about her classic Gryffindor spirit kicking in.

Like warm cookies.

Lorelei stared at the red head dryly, "You can't fool me, Lily. I know how family can be. Everyone can tell you don't want to face them alone."
