Why, you might ask? Simple, I want to create some suspense. Also, I had this idea and really wanted to write it, so, uh, enjoy! This is canon, but does not happen after Queen For A Day II. It happens somewhere before that. It can be read separately, no context needed.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

You sat on a table, petting Ruddiger as Varian, looking adorable with his goggles, attempted to create a chemical solution for god knows what. Attempted.

You started putting bows in Ruddiger fur, much to his annoyance, when you heard Varian exclaim "Agh!" loudly, followed by a thud. Wanting to investigate the noise, you stood up and saw Varian, who had multiple glass shards stuck in his hand.

He laid, unconscious, on the ground as you hurried over. "Varian? Varian can you hear me?" You shook him lightly, getting no answer.

You decided to drag him onto his bed, as the floor wasn't the nicest place to lie on. Gently, you pulled the shards out of his hand.

You would go and get ointment, but with all the chemical compounds in the room, which mostly didn't have coherent labels, you wouldn't risk accidentally pouring something potentially dangerous into an open wound.

You decided cleaning it would be the best move, and went to go grab a clean rag along with a bucket filled with water. You didn't want his wound to get infected after all.

It took about 15 minutes till he jumped up. He winced, and didn't dare to look at his hand.

"Varian! You're awake!" You exclaimed, relieved. You stood in the doorframe, bucket and towel in hand.

"Are you alright? Well, your hand isn't, but do you feel light-headed? Nauseous? Maybe you have a headache-" "I'm fine! I'm fine!" He said, sitting up.

You spotted a bit of blood on his pillow. Varian must've gotten a slight injury on the back of his head when he fell.

"...I uh, removed the glass-shards. I was going to clean up your wound." "Go ahead." He said, holding his hand out of his line of view and offering it to you.

You grabbed his wrist, and sat down next to him.

"So, you have hemophobia?"

"...Yeah. That's- it's kind of weird isn't it?"

"Not at all."

"But like, I experiment so much, one would think I'd be used to the sight of blood."

"I'd be more worried if you were, that would have to mean you- or someone else- bleeds often."

"You really don't find it weird?"

"No, why would I?"

"I guess I just uh, find it kind of embarrassing." He scratched his neck with his free hand.

"Ouch!"

"Sorry! If I had given you a heads up, it would've hurt more. Because, you know, you'd expect it and focus more on the oncoming pain."

"Yeah." He closed his eyes and furrowed his brows as the damp, cold cloth touched his wound. The water itself wasn't too unpleasant, but the sensation of cloth rubbing against his wounded skin was awful.

"I'll be quick, I promise." And (Y/N) was.

"Varian, do you have any ointment lying around?"

"Uh, yeah! Top shelf. On the right."

(Y/N) quickly grabbed a stool and got the ointment.

"This shouldn't hurt much."

She moved fluidly as she applied the paste generously. Varian watched her carefully as she worked, eyes still avoiding his hands. She seemed like she had done this a lot.
