The death of Lord Richard Redfort had quickly spread across the realm, and though Elowen hated the thought of her father finding out it was impossible to keep word from reaching Heart's Home. After months spent with neither Rhaenyra or Viserys found far from her as she balanced on the edge of sword, tilting between mourning for her husband and being grateful for his death.

The new widow sat at the small round table in her chambers as she enjoyed a midday meal with Rhaenyra and Lady Alicent Hightower. The table was piled with different meat pies and croquettes. A platter of lemon cakes had been pulled across the table to where Rhaenyra sat, as the Princess ignored the other options in favor for the sweet treat.

"You should come watch me ride Syrax tomorrow, dear Aunt." Rhaenyra spoke as she bit into a candied lemon.

"I do not know if Lady Elowen is up for that yet, Rhaenyra." Alicent quietly reprimanded her companion.

"Well I could always order her too, Alicent."

"I think that would be nice, Rhaenyra," The Princess stuck her tongue out in victory at her dearest friend. "And thank you for the concern, Alicent. It is very thoughtful of you."

Alicent seemed to shine under the praise, a rosy hue painting the apples of her cheeks. "Thank you, my lady."

Elowen smiled as Alicent and Rhaenyra began to bicker back and forth. The way the two friends spoke, lightly teasing each other reminded Elowen of Aemma. The late Queen had been more than Elowen's patron, she had been Elowen's closest confidant, her safe space. They had been more than just cousins or friends, they had been sisters, two halves of a whole. Elowen missed her with every breath she took, but the ache had lessened with every turn of the moon. She doubted it would ever truly disappear, but in moments like this Elowen almost felt at peace.

A knock rang out, interrupting the peaceful moment. "Come in," Elowen called.

Ingrid entered the room quickly curtsying in greeting. "Princess, Lady Alicent. My lady, I apologize for the intrusion."

"No worries, Ingrid." Elowen waved away the maid's apologizes.

"The King has requested for Princess Rhaenyra to join him for dinner tonight." With another curtsy, Ingrid stepped away from the three highborn women's attention.

"If I leave now I can ride Syrax before dinner." Rhaenyra jumped up, "Come Alicent. Goodbye Elowen."

Rhaenyra rounded the table to where Elowen sat, pressing a kiss to the older woman's cheek in either an apology or a goodbye, Elowen wasn't sure. Rhaenyra grinned as she grabbed Alicent's hand and pulled her from the room.

"Goodbye Rhaenyra, goodbye Alicent. Don't do anything foolish. " Elowen called after the Princess and her companion.

"My lady," Ingrid spoke, drawing Elowen's attention back to her. "A letter addressed to you arrived."
