Chapter 14: Josh

I’d been in hospital for 2 weeks now, they’d push back the date of my treatment to next week but I was allowed back to school tomorrow. “You sure you’re ready?” my dad asked, he’d taken off work for the two weeks I’d been inside, “Yeah” I said, I packed all my things in a bag and my dad carefully helped me from the bed, he now knew about my self-harm but didn’t know the full story to why I’d ran away, I didn’t have the heart to tell him since he’d force me to the police and I wasn’t ready for that. I’d got a new phone, a new number and he’d actually left me alone since the last time I’d seen him. As soon as we got home, I went straight to bed and slept till the morning. “Morning Kaitlin” Connor said when I came downstairs in the morning; I smiled and poured myself some cereal and milk in a bowl “Dad will you give me a lift today?” I asked dad when he came down; he nodded and packed his things in his case. I finished my breakfast and packed my school bag then grabbed my phone “I’ll make my own way” Connor said as me, dad and Christine walked out the door, Going in with dad, will meet you there xxx I texted Barry so he didn’t come round to pick me up, I shoved my new iPhone in my bag and sat back as we drove in through the school gates. Since I’d technically come in early, I spent an hour in the art room finishing up my coursework, when I noticed people coming in I walked outside to go and meet Barry. Everyone knew what had happened, about me trying to run away and now about my self-harming but as of now I wasn’t bothered, I just ignored their stares as I walked through the gates and over to Barry “Hiya babe” Barry said and wrapped his arms round me, kissing my forehead. I smiled up at him and wrapped my arms round his waist “You feelin’ alright Kait?” Steve-O asked, I pulled away a little from Barry and looked at Steve-O “Yes thanks” I said, smiling at him “Well hey if anyone tries to give ya grief just tell me yeah?” he said, I just nodded and laughed a little, I stood outside with Barry and Steve-O for a bit until I saw someone get out a car in the car park, “Is that-“ I said, squinting my eyes a little so I could see better. I let a huge smile spread across my face when I saw who got out the car; I grabbed Barry’s hand and dragged him away from Steve-O and into the school “JOSH!” I screamed when I walked into the building, my oldest friend turned around and smiled when he saw me, I ran over to him and wrapped my arms round his neck as he picked me up and hugged me “Alright Kaitlin?” Josh said and I just tightened my grip round his neck, he eventually put me down and I felt Barry’s arm round my shoulders “Who’s this then Kait?” Barry asked, I could tell he’d got jealous from my hug but I wasn’t bothered by it “Barry this is Josh, he was my best friend in Rochdale. Josh, this is Barry my boyfriend” I said, Josh smiled and took Barry’s hand to shake. I was about to say something to Josh when his phone rung and he walked off to answer it, I turned to Barry and saw him raise an eyebrow “Should I be worried?” Barry said with a smile on his face “Barry he’s gay” I simply said and pressed my lips against his quickly. “Kaitlin!” I heard someone shout behind me, I turned around and watched Dynasty walk towards me “How’re ya babe?” she asked, wrapping her arms round me in a hug, I just stood there feeling awkward. “What’s up?” she asked when she pulled away, realising I hadn’t hugged her back. “You’re supposed to be my best friend, Dyn…” I said, looking at her. She opened her mouth to speak then closed it again “I needed you and you weren’t there for 2 weeks when I was in hospital” I said, Barry took my hand in his then pulled me away so I didn’t have to talk to her, “You don’t need to talk to her yet, babe” Barry said and he wrapped his arms round my shoulders. We skipped Form and just spent it together until the bell went again; I quickly kissed Barry then went up the stairs to English. I walked in the room and took my usual seat next to Jack “Morning princess” Jack said when he walked inside and saw me sitting at the table, “Morning” I said and hugged him when he sat down, he kissed my cheek and hugged me back. “How’re you feeling?” Jack asked, “I’m okay” I said but we quickly stopped talking when Miss Mulgrew came into the classroom, she quickly handed out the Hamlet books and eventually got Jack to read out the story then me for the whole lesson. By the end of second period we’d already got half way through Hamlet, as soon as the bell went I walked out the classroom with Jack before going to the staff room. I didn’t knock again just walked inside but nobody was in there “Oh” I said then noticed Josh as he turned around “Oh hey Kaitlin” Josh said, he smiled and I went over to sit with him. “You alright then Kait?” Josh asked, I looked at him then at the floor “What?” Josh asked, he could tell something was wrong, I took a deep breath before explaining everything that had happened, with me having cancer, Kyle coming back, my self harming and me running away. “Oh Kaitlin…” Josh said, he pulled me into a hug and held me tight. It was nice having Josh back, he’d always been too busy for me whenever I called him. “I’m sorry I always blew you off when you called” Josh said, he stroked my hair and kissed my head. We stayed like that for a few minutes before his phone went off, he leant forwards and pulled his phone out to answer it “I’m gonna go find Barry” I said to him, he waved and I walked out the staff room passing Mr Clarkson on my way out “Hey Sir” I said and walked down the corridor. I walked down the corridor to where I saw Barry, he had his back to me so I ran up to him and jumped on his back “Whoa their baby” he said, I wrapped my arms round his neck and kissed his cheek as I wrapped my legs round his waist. “Hmmm, to the canteen!” Barry said, he stretched out his arm and ran down the corridor towards the canteen. He carried me through the people and to where the food was being served, “Gee whiz guys” Maggie said, but started doing us both a plate of food, Barry took his plate and I took mine before he carried me to a table. I sat down with Barry opposite me as I started to eat my lunch, I watched Barry carefully as I saw him look at my arm “Please don’t Barry…” I said in a hushed tone, Barry snapped his head up to look at me “Sorry” Barry said and carried on eating, “She’s just doing it for attention” I heard someone say, I looked at the table next to me and saw a group of girls watching me then quickly look away when I looked. I huffed out in annoyance and looked away, Barry hadn’t heard what they said so I didn’t say anything about it, a couple of minutes went by before I heard them laugh again and I stood up. “Fuck off! No I didn’t cut myself for attention! I didn’t get diagnosed with depression for fucking attention! Why don’t you go and grow a pair of balls and tell it to my face instead of whispering about me when I’m right next to you” I shouted at the girls, then dumped back down in my seat. Barry just sat there staring at me, then he smiled at me and took my hand in his. “I love you” he said, he rolled up my sleeve, looked into my eyes and kissed the cuts on my arms. “All of you, Kaitlin, every little last bit. I love you so much and I promise to always be there for you, whenever you need me I’ll dropped everything for you. I love you” Barry said, I looked at him for a second then let a huge smile spread across my face “I love you too” I said then pulled his face forward and kissed him, I smiled against his lips when people started clapping and cheering for us, which was a little bit weird but it made me happy. At the end of lunch, me and Barry let our hands entwine together before walking to the auditorium together, I smiled at Josh as we sat down at the front together, Barry’s arm round my shoulders. We sat there quietly listening to Josh’s speech about life after school; it took up the whole of fourth period until the bell went “I’ll come meet you outside your art room yeah?” Barry said, I nodded and kissed him quickly before going to my art lesson.

 At the end of the day, I walked out with Barry and went over to Steve-O “Can I get my car back now?” Barry asked as we walked over “Where’s that Connor with my money?” Steve-O asked, he was leant against the car and I was already getting rather bored of the conversation, I just wanted to spend some time with Barry. Alone. “Connor? Dunno gone home I think” “And ya sister?” Steve-O sighed out in annoyance when Barry didn’t answer “I dunno Steve-O. I did what ya said. If she’s not interested in ya I can’t help it” Barry said, I squeezed his hand lightly to show him I thought he was right “Maybe not but you’ve got a problem if you’ve sold me on a bad debt” Steve-O said and went round to the driver’s seat of the car, “That kids not gonna know what hit ‘im” Steve-O added and got into the car. I watched Barry go to open the passenger door but Steve-O drove away before he could “It’s my car” Barry said, to nobody in particular. “He best not go near my ‘ouse, Barry” I said to him “I’ll make sure he don’t, come on you can come back to mine. It’s time we face my mum” Barry said, I smiled and we started walking the long way back to Barry’s house.

“What’s SHE doing here?!” Mrs Barry said when she opened the front door and saw me and Barry holding hands, “Listen mum, we need to talk to you” Barry said, he shoved past his mum and pulled me inside with him. “Sit down” Barry instructed, I walked into the living with him and stood in front of Mrs Barry “Mum, me and Kaitlin are together. And we have been for a month now since you told us not to date. I love Kaitlin and if you can’t accept that and our relationship then I’ll just leave and take Kaitlin with me it’s as simple as that. Mr Byrne knows and he’s accepted us, he’s happy for me and Kaitlin and I want you to be too. She makes me happy” Barry told his mum, I smiled and looked down at the floor. I watched Mrs Barry think for a second before standing up, she took a deep breath and hugged us both “As long as you’re happy babe, that’s all that matters” She said to Barry then turned to me “Welcome to the family love” she added and hugged me. 

I don't think this chapter is as long as normal so I'm sorry about that but I'll do the same as last time plus votes so 5 comments and votes for next chapter
