Lia sat up and looked at Alex. "You said what? Alex that's my mother! She has the power to break this relationship!"
Alex sat on the ground. "Not if you don't let her. Remember our promise?"
Lia nodded. "I remember. Still, my mother!"
Alex looked at her lap. "I'm sorry."
Lia sighed and laid back on her bed. "She told me she doesn't want you in the house anymore."
"Yet here I am." Alex said.
Lia threw a pillow at her and groaned. "I am leaving my window open for you." She said.
Alex saw her go pale. "You okay?"
Lia shook her head. "Nope. But I will be."
Alex stood up and walked over to the bed and climbed onto it.
Lia wrapped her arms around Alex's waist as she laid on her lap. "Alex. If worse comes to worst run away with me. And we have to promise to never come back."
    Alex kissed her forehead. "Never?"
Lia thought once and nodded. "Never. She'll always try to get me back but she doesn't understand that she's the reason I'm leaving every time." Lia said.
Alex kissed her forehead again. "Okay. Never then. I promise."
Lia held onto Alex. "I promise too."
Alex smiled and brushed Lia's hair out of her face. "Lana is a good mother she just needs to step up a little. I told her that."
Lia smiled. "Your exact words were "step the fuck up."
Alex stuck her tongue out. "So I cursed. I always curse."
"I know you dork. I curse sometimes too." Lia said.
"You're still my beautiful flower."
Alex blushed. "You're my beautiful flower too."
Lia smiled. "Good. I hope so." She heard a car door slam from outside. "Lana's back."
"I heard." Alex said. "Do you want me to leave?"
"That's a stupid question. I'll never want you to leave." Lia said.
    "Good." Alex said.
"Lia? Are you upstairs?" Lana called from downstairs.
     "Yes mum!" Lia yelled.
"I'm on my way up. I brought some medication." Lana said as her voice grew closer.
Lia nodded. "Do you want to hide or stay in plain sight and fight the battle?"
Alex smiled. "I'll fight my battle." She said.
Lia's food opened. Lana walked in. She glared at Alex and handed Lia some medication. "I thought I told you-"
"Mum I love her. She won't be gotten rid of that easily." Lia said.
Lana sucked in a sharp breath. "Lia you live under my roof and-"
"I'll leave. You know I will. Don't fight with me on this Mum. Pick your battles. Is this really one you want to lose?" Lia asked sitting up.
Lana crossed her arms. "Fine but I want her out everyday before 8:30pm."
"Fine Mum. Whatever you say." Lia said. She took the medication. "Is that all?"
Lana looked between Lia and Alex. "Yes. I'm going to pick up some food. I'll be back in an hour or so." She said. "I want her gone by the time I get back."
Lia watched her mother walk out.
She waited for the familiar car door to slam.
"What do we do now?" Lia asked.
"She didn't say I couldn't see you." Alex said.
"She'll only make our time as little as possible." Lia said softly.
Alex pulled her to her chest. "I'm still here though."
"But how long will she allow it?" Lia asked sitting up. "How long will be allowed to stay with me?"
"I don't know but we'll see when the time comes." Alex said softly leaning against the wall behind her.
Lia sighed and looked at her. "Why did you have to yell at her?"
"Because she had to hear what I had to say." Alex said. "You know she did."
"I know." She whispered. "I know she did."
Lia crawled into Alex's lap and they rated like that until the clock struck 9:00pm. Lana wasn't home.
Lia reached over to the bedside table and picked up her phone. "It's been too long since she's been gone."
Alex stood up. "I can go out and see if she's near?"
Lia stood up. "I'll come."
Alex tried to argue back but she knew it wasn't going to stop her. Lia pulled a jacket on and the two walked outside. They wandered down the street looking around for the familiar car. They called and she didn't answer.
Lia sighed and pulled her phone out again. "I'm calling Bex."
Alex nodded.
Lia dialed and waited for an answer.

Bex: Lia? What's wrong? Why are you calling so late?
Lia: Mum left a few hours ago for food and she's been gone for too long. I've called. We're looking around town for her now. Have you heard from her?
Bex: stay in town. I'll be over to pick you two up soon. I haven't seen her but we can look together. It'll be okay Lia.
Lia hung up and sighed. "She's on her way."
