Chapter 35 - Run

We have been driving for hours down the highway towards the coast until Nick honks his horn causing me to come to a immediate stop.

I get out of the truck, Katana in hand, and go over to Nick.

"What's wrong?" I question.

"Our car has been running on fumes for miles,were out of gas now." Nick tells me.

"Well we have to get to the coast... so get everyone in your car into the back of my truck"

As Nick goes to get everyone, Mason hops out of his car and walks around Nicks.

"Damn it" Mason says.

"What?" I ask.

"We might not get far, my car is on empty, and there will be no room for us in your truck" Mason says.

"Then What?" I Ask.

After a few seconds of silence Mason answers.

"We Walk" And with that Mason returns to his car.

I turn to see everyone from Nicks car in the back of my truck.

"There isn't a thing left in that car, I pulled some of the Long wires just in case" Nick says.

I don't answer I just take out the walker walking towards me and get into the Truck and speed away, Mason on my tail.

"Mason's Car is on suck for gas" I whisper to Madison and Cole.

"And there is no room for all of us in the truck" I Continue

"And when Mason\s car run's out of gas" I stay silent for a bit.

"We have to walk" Madison finishes off.

I Nod.

"Madison Can't Do That!" Cole whisper yells.

I'm quite confused by what he means, I get even more suspicious when I see Madison slap his leg.

But I let it go.

After about 10 minutes mason honks his horn.

I Stop.

Before I get out I look at how much gas I have left..

Empty.

"Everyone out of the truck!" I Order.

"Mason get everyone out of your car" I Order Mason.

I leave the truck running as I speak to the remains of our group.

"All the cars are out of gas, the truck has none but can run for a little bit, from here on, we have to walk our way to the coast" 

I let the group think in silence for a minute.

I think to.

Then I realize where I am...

I look down a road to my right and there it is...

The only thing that I worked so hard for, not my life... 

The Hospital..

There's walkers everywhere around the field.

I spot the place where Madison was shot.

I nudge Madison and not to the right.

She looks and her face goes pale.

"We have to leave, now!" She orders.

"Everyone get what you can, take the most important stuff" I say.

"Make It Quick!" I say before everyone runs to their packs and takes what they can.

I grab the big book bag filled with ammunition, And I get Cole to take the one with all the food, Everyone else just takes a bag.

I Strap on all my weapons that i managed to salvage from camp.

My Katana, My Crossbow,My quiver of arrows, My Pistols, And My Knife. The only thing I couldn't get from camp was my machine gun.

After getting the bags we all gather around me.

"Okay! So the trip to the coast may take days, weeks, or even months, it depends on the weather, how far we can walk, and the walkers" I Say.

"Any Questions?" I Ask.

Colin speaks up.

"What happens if one of us get bit?" Silence takes over the group.

"We do what we would normally do... Put them down so they don't turn" I answer.

"Any More Questions?" I Ask Again.

Once again Colin speaks up.

"I have no weapons... should I have one?" He asks confused.

Madison moves away from the group but I ignore it.

"Well we don't have any, but we can look for one in the next town we reac-" I get cut off by Madison.

"Here you go" She says and passes Conner a belt holster with a gun and knife in it.

"Remember aim for the head" She says as Colin straps the belt on.

"Where did you get that?" I Ask Madison confused.

"I put one in my bag just in case, I always had a extra in the tree house just in case of a emergency, and we cant have a 12 year old go around in this world without something for self defence" Madison says and walks over to Cole.

i notice Conner and Colin talking and laughing.

Finally someone for Conner to be happy with.

"Okay! lets Move!" I say as i walk past the road leading to the hospital,and walk towards the coast.

(QUICK A/N: THE HOSPITAL WAS THEIR OLD CAMP BEFORE THE TREE HOUSES) 

After hours of walking down the highway, the sun starts to set.

'We should set up camp right here" I say.

"Me,Jacob,Nick,And Cole Will take watch while you guys sleep.

While everyone sets up a place to sleep Me, Jake, Nick, And Cole stand around out little make shift camp in a square formation.

I cover the side facing towards the coast, Jake got the right, Nick got the way facing towards the hospital and Cole got the left.

After a few hours its pitch black and everyone except the guards on watch are asleep.

No walkers threatened us...

"Ahh Guys" Nick Says.

We All look Nicks way to see a herd of walkers that can tear a house down.

"Shit" I yell.leaving my side going to Nicks.

Running to Nicks side i take my gun out as quick as possible.

As soon as I reach Nick I fire the first shot, killing a walker.

I turn around to see everyone awake with a scared face.

"Everyone! Get you stuff! We have To Go! Now!"

I Continue shooting walkers and reloading along with Nick Cole and Jake.

When I See everyone is ready i stop shooting and say "Lets Go!" We run the opposite way of the walkers, I still have the bag of ammo on my back.

But we all stop when we hear shots being fired. I turn back to find Colin shooting walkers down, killing them.

"Colin! lets Go!" I yell.

Still.

I Keep yelling at him then Conner walks up to him.

And...

Kisses him.

Colin snaps out of whatever trance he was in and smiles as Conner.

"We need To run!" Conner Said.

And Colin Did so.

He ran past us and said "Come On!"

i look at Conner.

Conner says.

"Ill Explain Later Right Now, Run"

And the whole group kept running.

After running for awhile we get cut off by another herd coming at us.

We go to run back but the herd is still on our tail.

"Into The Woods!" I yell as we run into the woods on out right.

We kept running threw trees trying to loose the walkers.

And after about another 20 minutes of running we do.

"Lets keep moving, We can't have this herd catch up to us" I say.

And We do.
