"Firefighter down" it was all systems go when one of your own was injured.

Your goal has to be divided between the civilian and your teammate.

It was difficult.

Maya stood outside of the building as she watched parts of it crumble to the floor.

She held her radio in hand and shouted to her teammates to see if she could find out what was going on.

All she knew was that someone was down.

A member of her team.

"It's Travis" Andy came running from the building, the smoke having caused her to cough as she struggled to catch her breath.

"He's" Maya caught her friend as she tumbled towards her and almost bumped into her, she held her hands against her shoulders as the brunette leant forward trying to gain back a single breath.

"Stand up straight, that won't help your breathing" Maya helped Andy to stand up straight.

Andy stood for a moment, her breathing evening out and her coughing coming to a slow end.

"Travis- he's hurt" Maya's eyes turned to the building.

She has only just been put back on physical duties, she didn't realise this call would be as hard as it currently was.

"Who's with him?" Maya asked as she brought the radio up to her ear to see if she could hear anything.

"Vic" Maya nodded her head and tried to sooth her best friend who was in clear distress.

"He's in good hands then" Maya knew that if she didn't have two toddlers that relied on her, she would be running into that fire within a heart beat, but she knew that if she did that now, she may not make it out, and that's something she couldn't risk.

All she could do was stay calm herself, and attempt to calm down Andy.

She stood resting her hands on Andy shoulders whilst watching the commotion behind them: Firefighters running every which way, ambulance crew parking by the curb, it was hectic.

Maya left Andy for a moment before running towards a first aid bench which held oxygen masks for firefighters that desperately needed them.

She grabbed one and ran back towards Andy.

"Use this" she held the mask out towards her watching as Andy took the mask from her and held it against her mouth; covering her nose.

"Good, breath" they stood there for a moment, the surroundings behind them fading away for a second.

Just for a second.

"Firefighter down!" Maya turned her head when she heard a familiar voice seemingly closer than before when she heard through the radio.

Andy turned her eyes towards the voice and dropped her mask before running towards them both.

Travis was laying on the floor; vic must have dragged him out.

Maya also ran towards both firefighters when she saw Andy run towards them.

"Here" both Andy and Maya held Travis' legs by lifting them from the floor so they could help Vic carry him to an ambulance.

"Over here!" They called over the closest paramedics, in which they ran over in response.

They put Travis on a stretcher and hooked him up to any machine within reach.

One of the paramedics tapped on the back of the ambulance telling the driver to start the car, but before he shut the doors Maya held onto his arm.

"He's one of ours" the man looked at Maya with a sad smile, before closing the ambulance.

Maya, Andy and Vic watched as the ambulance carried their friend to Grey Sloan.

They all felt hopeless now.

However, the feeling for Maya soon disappeared when she realised that they could go with them.

"Let's go, grab the truck and let's go" Maya turned as she grabbed Vics arm persuading her to join her.

"Andy come on" Maya pulled at her best friends hand when she didn't move.

Carina was filling out charts on her floor when she couldn't help but get distracted by the constant whispering next to her.

"What firefighter is it this time? Do you know what station they're from?" Carinas stomach dropped, she pushed aside the pen she was writing with and ran to the elevator.

As soon as the elevator descended to the main floor where the ambulances brought in patients she ran towards the ambulance bay, but came to a stop when she saw Maya sat down on one of the chairs.

"Thank god" she sighed before walking over to the blonde.

"Bella" Maya lifted her head at hearing a very familiar voice.

"Hi" she smiled at the brunette before standing and placing a kiss to the doctors cheek.

"I was so worried when I heard a firefighter had been brought in" Maya nodded before leaning closer so her arms could wrap around Carinas waist and her lips were level with her ear.

"Travis" Carina nodded her head knowing the male firefighter as she had interacted with him before.

"Oh" Maya smiled weakly before sitting down again, but pulling carina with her so she could sit in the vacant seat next to her.

"Yeah" Maya breathed before resting her head against the wall.

Carina squeezed Maya's hand in an attempt to reassure the firefighter.

She couldn't help but feel useless though.

She couldn't do anything to help Travis, but she could help Maya.

Vic watched as Carina sat with Maya: her hand resting against the blondes, her thumb moving across Smokey skin in order to sooth her in some way.

She hadn't seen too much of Carina or heard too much about her, but from what she was seeing, she could tell that the brunette cared deeply for her friend, and that was enough.

Her attention was soon torn however, when she saw a male figure stood in front of them.

They all awaited a response eagerly eyeing the man for any clues.

"He's stable" Maya could hear both women beside her sigh in relief, as did she.

A smile broke out on her face at hearing that her friend was ok, he was stable.

"He's going to need a lot of time resting, but he's going to be ok" Carina smiled when she turned towards Maya, her smile bigger than ever.

"Thank you" the man smiled before walking away.

Maya turned to Carina and the brunette opened her arms.

"He's ok" Maya stated before launching into Carinas arms.

Carina rested one hand against Maya's back as the other rested against the back of her head.

"He's ok"
