Chapter 38|I Like You, I Do

Well, I tried to tell ya so..."

"Yes, I did!"

"But, I guess you didn't know
As the saddest story goes
Baby, now I got the flow.."

"I love this song!" he shouts over the blasting music, hitting each and every corner of the gym.

"I know, me too"

It just so happens that I, Elaine Malia Dearly, can have fun. In fact, I am the funnest of fun. Yeah, I basically invented fun. Everybody who came before has nothing on me.

Although, funnest is not a word and I may be high on life right now as I dance and sing along to the nineties classic, Mark Morrison's, Return Of The Mack with none other than Beckinsale Carter.

Who knew we had so little but also so much in common? Not me.

"You lied to me..."

"All those times I said that I love you..." I sing along as I close my eyes for a moment feeling the tempo of the song and as I open my eyes, I can see Beck giving me a weird expression.

Just as I'm about to ask what is wrong, Krista zooms in out of nowhere, "oh my gosh, Beck guess what? Marco happened, finally!"

He stutters trying to grasp the situation he's, all of a sudden, been pulled into as I back away slowly not letting my eyes stray from the golden hazel eyes of the boy next door.

"What? Really, I'm so happy for you, Krista!"

"You are? Oh! They're about to announce homecoming court, come on!" she squeals as she grasps his, she stops before she walks ahead, "hey, El come on!"

I take hold of Krista's hand as she practically drags Beck and I to the front of the crowd just before spot where the stage is situated.

"Ahem, welcome Everdear Lynx students to the eighty second, annual homecoming event!" the head mistress exclaims through the microphone as my peers and surrounding teachers and chaperones cheer in pure excitement.

Next to me, Beck does that weird gesture where he scratches the back of his neck anxiously and I wonder what could be wrong.

"Now before we continue with the crowning of the royal Everdear court, I would just like to take this moment to applaud the amazing homecoming committee for this fantastic scenery surrounding us all for this beautiful night to remember" she cheers as she encourages a round of applause and I cannot help but, to completely agree with her.

Eleanor, Mere and everyone on the committee have truly outdone themselves this year and the fact that one of my favourite and one of the most magical scenes in cinematic history is the theme, is phenomenal. Everything about tonight has been amazing so far and I couldn't be more stoked about the events.

Sure, I wish Henry we're here to enjoy it with me but, I am finally out and doing something for myself, something that I actually do not and have not regretted within the first five minutes.

So, yes. I am beyond impressed.

"Now, the moment we've all, mostly, been waiting for, the official crowning of the twenty-twenty two, Everdear Lynx High's royal homecoming court!"

I clap along with everyone else as look around for my friends and just as I spot them, the announcement begins and the lights dim.

"Would the nominees for homecoming court please step up to the stage so, we can get this show on the road? We have; Meredith Johnson, Brandy Kravitz, Shayla Kio and Bridger Laughlin, George Sawyer and last but, certainly not least, Eris Dearly!"
