(Part 32): "Fresh Face"

I woke up in a stretcher with my adrenaline pumping and Rosen running at my side. My breaths turned into contractions where I rushed into a hospital room.

"What's going on!?" I screamed out.

Tears started to form down my face as the doctor told me to push, I couldn't help but to squeeze Rosen's hand as this was my new reality. It's been almost 32 hours since I've gotten any sleep and I'm exhausted from pushing and finally getting the baby out. Rosen left to get me some food as they brought in the baby.

"It's a boy." The doctor says with pride.

I held the little infant in my arms, smiling with tears of joy as Rosen returned with the food, dropping the bag on the floor in shock.

"What would you guys like to name him?" We were asked.

Rosen and I looked at each other as we have been spitting out names back and fourth whether it was a boy or a girl. He knew I wanted the child's last name under his. He smiles and opened his mouth taking a breath,

"Graham McCain." Rosen proudly states.

"Very unique." The nurse smiled.

Rosen held Graham and he got a little teary eyed. I've never seen Rosen emotional in my life, and this was the first of perhaps many.

"You're crying." I chuckled.

"I don't cry, I just think that this is my new life, with our family."

My smile grew wider at the thought that we are a family. Rosen, Graham, and me. It's just us with maybe two more kids? I don't know what he wants.

I woke up the next day, able to be released with my newborn. Rosen picked up Graham and we took him into the woods with us where Rosen had set up a crib in our tent. We covered the baby in a warm blanket so he wouldn't freeze.

"Can I see him!?" Sydney kept jumping up and down.

"You wanna hold him?" I offered.

"Can I?" Her eyes lit up.

I nodded my head, handing her Graham gently; showing her how to hold him.

"I'm your auntie, and I get to boss you around." She told Graham like a boss.

Everyone laughed around Sydney and Graham, "Be nice to Graham." Mason tells her.

"I will treat him like my little brother." She giggled.

Mason was now holding him, watching him for a few while Rosen got ready to leave. I started to cry my eyes out, hoping this wasn't real right now.

"I'm sorry, I'll be back before you know it." He hugged me tightly.

Giving me one quick peck on the lips, I got on my tippy toes and looked at him with the tears in my eyes. "Don't cry." He tells me.

Rosen picked me up and held me close as I cried into his chest, "How will I raise Graham by myself?"

"You have the family to help. Which is why I'm not letting you go back to the house to leave you and Graham there in case anything happens." He sighed.

"I love you so much." I struggle to tell him.

"I love you too." He whispers back as I could feel his fingers go up and down my spine.

He kissed my forehead and we went out of the tent where Rosen was in his uniform, ready to leave.

"Well, I'm going again." He muttered.

Mason looked at me in tears, "You shouldn't have to. You have a child and you have her." He says.

"He had my word. There was nothing I could do." Rosen explained.

He looked back at me, and I nodded my head. I shook off my sad face and smiled, holding Graham close to me. Rosen said goodbye to everyone and finally turned around to give Graham a kiss on the forehead. His eyes focused on mine.

"I love you, be safe, I'll be back before you know it." He assures me.

"I love you too. Please don't get hurt, and you also be safe." I blinked back my tears.

He nodded his head and left us in silence. I looked at our baby which had light green eyes, and dark hair just like Rosen's. He must have gotten the green eyes from my grandmother... She always had the piercing eyes of a witch. Even though she always treated me to a cookie.

"Are you ok?" Julia asked.

"Yeah, I'll be ok." I lied.

She smiled at me and I gave her a fake one in exchange. I ate dinner and gave Graham his whenever he started crying out. We all sat around the 8 o'clock fire with everyone side-by-side. Julia held my hand because she's nervous about me missing him.

"Lissi, what's the thing you missed most about the old world?" Mason asked.

"Nothing. I fücking hated high school." I stated.

They laughed and I smiled. Before this all happened I was a Junior in high school and all I would do is pray to get out at the time I came in.

"What about you, Julia?" I turned to her.

"Go to the store without getting shot for nothing. I miss that, I'm not allowed to go to any stores anymore because of it. I think if that weren't a thing we wouldn't lose so many people over the course of one year. Just this year we lost 1 million people." She sighed.

Alex had the look of disgust and laughed, "At least we have the weapons unlike some people."

"True." Tiffany spoke up.

Sydney ran over to the fire, over to Mason, "Daddy! Can I pleaseee roast a marshmallow!?"

Mason chuckled, and handed her one.

"I've never met your other son, Mason." I looked at him confused.

"He's been staying with his aunt because I wanted him to get an education. Sydney suffers from a disease so it makes it harder for her to learn." He sighed.

"Oh. I'm sorry." I looked at the ground.

I got up with Graham as everyone else was heading off to bed, I took him into the tent with me; instead of putting him into his crib I lay him beside me in my arms, then drifting off to sleep.

Everything hurts.

"It doesn't take a genius to figure it out, Lissi." He spat at me.

I felt abused. I got up and took another load of pills. Gone I was.
