"How come you don't know how she looks like? Your best friend was going to marry her best friend. And you do not know how she looks like? If you were going to lie to me, better give me a good one, Triane," he said, a nerve in his forehead threatening to burst.

Hiding behind a boulder, which was outside the moat in Cyriac, the general of Icathus and the lord of Chaon were waiting for the final bell to go. The final bell would strike at midnight, and that was the sign they were waiting for. The question was how were they going to go in? Surely, no one would open the gates for them and welcome them warmly.

"I am sorry! But whenever I was there, she was not there and when she was there, I was not there. Actually, I was about to meet her on the day of marriage, but I never got the chance," Triane confessed. "Plus you know with whom she was working."

Looking ahead, Payne said, "Kale wrote to me today."

"He did?" Triane's eye widened.

"Yes. It was one long apology letter."

Triane chuckled softly. "I expected it."

Bell they had waiting for, finally rang. Perfect twelve strokes.

"Let's move," Payne whispered.

"A second, Payne. How are we going to go in?" Triane asked.

Payne's eyebrows rose to his hairline. He could not believe that Triane was that stupid.

"Don't tell me, Triane," Payne warned.

Though their bodies were craftily hidden by the night darkness, both their blond hair would give them away. And their bickering would certainly help the night guards, and not them. Triane bit his lip and he nodded forcefully.

"It is okay, I can swim," Triane said with such determination that the general could tell that was fake.

"But tell me, how did Elmar manage to send a message to Ella?" Payne asked. That question was burning in him ever since he heard Elmar had sent a message to Ella. One was in Uhona, discussing battle strategies, while the other was in Cyriac, condemned as a slave.

"You know, love knows no bounds? To prove that, Elmar wished to send the message and Ella got it. Do not ask me how I do not know. Perhaps I know and I have forgotten. Or Duren is helping," he answered.

Payne swore never to ask that idiotic boy another question. He then inched closer towards the waters. The waters were freezing and the usual warmth Cyriac had had died. The dew drops on the water plants were hardened into tiny, icy crystals.
