Chapter 14 | chit chat

You've explained everything that just occurred to L on the walk to the cafe, through the thought methods. Not a word uttered to Light about the involvement of the Kami. But there's no telling what Ryuk will spill to him. The only thing he knows from today is the fact L suspects he's kira.

Sipping his tea, light sat opposite you and L. Under the table you had your foot up against his, touching meaning you could communicate through thoughts if you had to.

"Thanks for showing us this place, the cakes are really good" L said.

"It's one of my favourites in the area. Plus we're so out of the way here no one I'll call you out for the way you sit" Light replied.

"I don't want to sit like this, I have to. Sitting any other way would make my deductive ability drop by roughly 40%"

You gave him a confused look for a moment, not understanding the logic in it. Maybe it's a blood flow thing? Or a focus method? L went to stab the strawberry on top of his cake with his fork, only to be met with whipped cream.

"Wha- didn't I just have a strawberry..." he mumbled.

You snickered, knowing those three fae you saw on your your mirror the other day are probably around stealing people's fruit.

"I swear you did..." Light added.

"Whatever, anyway I have a question for you regarding the Kira case"

This would be interesting, L told you about this earlier. He has some print outs of the Kira criminal letters, and he was going to see if he could trip light up. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled three of them out, handing them to light.

"Tell me what you think of these. Notes left by victims of Kira..."

You both watched Light read them over and try to come to a conclusion. The longer you looked at Light the more you started to feel something. A strange sense of dread... not directly from him, his aura was mischievous but that wasn't what you were feeling. It wasn't Ryuk either, he was outside.

Something to do with Light, or surrounding him suddenly felt off.

"L" you thought, pressing your foot closer to his first make sure he could hear your thoughts.

"Yeah?"

"I'm getting odd vibes from Light. Not specifically him though, more like something to do with him"

"Weird, it's not Ryuk?" L asked.

"No, it's not him. It's definitely human. But it's like a... dread, impending doom. Something is about to happen"

"Something bad?"

"Maybe? I'm not sure. But whatever it is it's not Light, it's something to do WITH him"

Light spoke up, now having a conclusion.

"It'd be fascinating to know that kira can control the actions of his victims. It looks like there's a message in the letters for you. If you arrange them by the print numbers it doesn't make any sense, but if you arrange them like this..."

He placed them out on the table, in the correct order.

"L did you know, gods of death love apples. I don't know about this gods of death business but it's definitely a message" he explained.

"That's incorrect" L said.

Light gave him a confused look.

"The truth is, there's actually four letters" He said taking out the fourth card from his pocket.
