Chapter 45 | meanwhile

"Ow! Stop it!"

"Give it back then!"

"It's my turn on the computer!"

"Guys... can we chill for two seconds?"

Watching the kids fight over the computer mouse he sighed. Always the peace keeper between these two idiots.

"Give it to me I wanna see what L's doing with Kira!"

"I was literally about to look it up, let go!"

"Shut the fuck up! You'll wake up Roger!"

Freezing mid fight, they stopped, realising they were being too loud. All three of them were up past lights out as it was, if they got caught they'd be in trouble. Unbeknownst to the boys next in line for L, L had been thinking about them recently. That impending doom feeling had been getting stronger and stronger, tomorrow was the day you'd catch Higuchi. A big risk was being taken with this. And L couldn't help but feel like the risk was greater now Light had started piecing things together again.

So he sent a letter to Dionysus.

"Stop pulling!" Near whisper yelled.

"Give me the mouse!" Mello seethed back.

Matt just sighed, these two were impossible. In the dark room, something caught his eye in the dim light from the computer and when he realised what it was, he jumped out of his skin.

"WHAT THE FUCK THATS A SNAKE!"

Immediately stopping the fight, Mello and Near scampered away from the desk upon spotting it.

"How the fuck did a snake get in here?!" Mello said.

"Oliiivveee, what have I told you about scaring humans?"

The boys jumped again, looking toward the voice only to be blinded by a bright glow in the dark room. When their eyes adjusted they were met with a tall glowing man picking up the snake and slinging it around his neck. They were about to freak out and go wake up roger, since a stranger was in the orphanage, but with the flick of the mans wrist the door to the room closed and locked.

"Who the fu-" Mello began.

"Shhhh, don't wake up the other kids. L sent me"

They were all well and truly paying attention now.

"L?" Near questioned.

The man pulled out a roll of paper, unrolling it to read it.

"Dionysus,

I am getting really worried that my successors will be looped into this mess. With Light putting together the memories he lost, I'm worried he'll try and dig up information on me that leads back to Wammys. Even though most records of me have been erased, with deity involvement there's every chance he'll end up with a life log in his hands, if he finds that, he'll know about wammys and put the lives of my successors at risk. Since our sting operation is soon I can't contact them myself, but I'll talk to the staff at the orphanage about the situation. I ask that you take them to the aether or the highlands to keep them out of Lights reach.

The boys looked a little confused. They'd been in the dark about a lot of the Kira case. So they needed a filler, but they didn't doubt this was from L. No one else outside the orphanage knows of the successors so it had to be from him.

"I'm... lost..." Matt said.

"I thought you might be. There's a lot to explain to listen up. I'm Dionysus, god of wine and the harvest. And I'm working with L. When the case started I became aware of the situation. I'm sure you already know that Kira holds the power to kill via heart attack with a name and a face?"
