trigger warning for the following subject matters-
mentions & implications of death, murder, death by fire, fire in general, hate crimes, homophobic hate crimes, internalized homophobia, graphic homophobia (seriously, heavy with this warning and if it gets too much, i will have a summery of his dream after the fact), mental breakdownsANGEL COULDN'T QUITE RECALL JUST HOW HE PASSED OUT, or just what had happened previously for him to end up here, watching his naive four year old self be dragged through the maze of dressing rooms that littered the backyard of the circus. But whatever it was, he cursed the day they formed as he watched his mother grip his hand so tightly he could see his normally tanned skin turn pale under her grip, that sickening smile that haunted him even years later painted on her lips.
Did Hypnos truly hated him so much as to make him relive this so many times that he could tell you the number of footsteps he took just to keep up with his mothers long, determined strides. Just how many breaths and pants left his lips as he struggled to keep his breath after such a tiring day with zero rest just to be dragged out of his bed so suddenly. Just how many seconds it took his poor childhood self to realize the woman holding his hand was not the sweet woman he once thought he knew.
But no matter if he memorized the entire thing to a T, it never failed to make him sick to his stomach as he watched his four year old self cling to his mothers hand as he let her guide him through the maze of dressing rooms and trailers that filled the backyard of the circus he lived in. He watched as he was pulled towards the Big Top, the main tent where all his nightmares took place. The one place Angel used to feel at home, but now could never see the same after this very night. The very place where Angel lost that childhood innocence of his.
