Cleo looked at me, a stern glare piercing through my skin. Her hazel eyes had turned icy with anger.

"He told you."
"I-I need details..." I mumbled.

She wiped her tears again.

"He's the first vampire in existence, he's stronger than all the rest of us. He could kill me in a second if I don't comply with what he says. He's like a- a fucking king."

She sniffled, and I sat down next to her, resting my head on her shoulder.
"I understand," I whispered.

She didn't say a thing back, but loosened up.
"Is it what he said about Theo, is that why you're crying?"

"I suppose it is," she answered, "I'm just trying my best. I...It's harder when you're not..."

"I know, I get it," I reassured her, "you don't have to say it."

"And my mother."

"You're scared, and he just made it worse."

"I don't want to continue the generational trauma. But if Emient takes Theo away from us, everything will be...just-"

He could do that?

I suddenly tensed up, pulling away to look at her.

My heart rate sped up, I could almost feel my pulse throughout my veins.

"He would do that?"

I wasn't even sure how to feel. A world without my baby.

Her eyes caught mine, and she stifled a nod. "The probability is low if I can prove to him I'm not shit,"

"H-how will you do that?"

"I'm not sure what he has up his sleeves," she sighed. "I-I'm just...trying to stay calm about it all."

"Okay- okay, yeah, sure."

She pulled me into her, and I wrapped my arms around her neck. I was soon curled around her like a little newborn koala, it reminded me of Melanie.

I had closed my eyes, but I could feel as she took me up the stairs and put me into bed.

"Cleo," I muttered.
"Yes?"
"Don't leave."

"I-I won't...but I'm going to go get the children first."

I hummed in acceptance, settling into the bushy blankets and my head into my pillow.

She came back up in minutes, I assumed Theo had been put in the nursery, and Melanie had probably said she was going to play, but was going to watch him sleep, instead.

We'd talked to her about it, how it was a little creepy, but at least she liked him. And it didn't seem to wake him. We'd grab her after a few minutes.

Cleo crawled into the covers with me, shaking the whole bed.

"God, calm down," I grumbled.
"Oh, hush,"

"You better make up for that."

She wrapped her arms around my waist, spooning me. "Mm, how should I?" She whispered, her lips pushing against my neck.

"I want all the cuddles you have to offer."

She slowly retracted the kiss. "We'll be here for weeks then, babydoll." Her gentle voice rasped.

"Good. Better be months."

She lodged her head into my shoulder, her cheek pressing against my jaw.

"I love you," I whispered.
"I love you most."
