//CHAPTER 2.2

Purple

In the solace of my own retreat,

I yearn for quietude, still and discreet,

To be left alone, undisturbed, complete.

....................................

Purple had been minding his own business, just hanging out in the vents, annoying his friends, the usual daily activities for him.

That was when he heard a strange noise coming from one direction.

It sounded like banging. Purple didn't know what it was, but he knew he wasn't going to let anything intrude into his territory. He was the vent-dwelling monster.

He began crawling through his vents in that direction, then he heard someone calling his name. It came from the same direction. Was someone banging on their vent to get his attention again?

He came up to one of the vent entrances, where Blue was standing outside of it. Sure enough, he had been pounding on the vent, calling the purple monster.

"Stop pounding over there! What is it?" Purple asked irritably, annoyed that it had been a false alarm and not an actual intruder.

Blue knelt down and peeked into the vent. He moved backwards a little, making Purple a little suspicious. What was making him so nervous?

"Spit it out." Purple said, still very much disappointed. He wanted to go back into the darkness, it was too bright in this room.

Blue looked left, then right, as if to make sure that no one was watching them.

"Something's not right." Blue said.

Purple blinked at him, waiting for him to continue.

He didn't, he just sat there as if he expected Purple to agree with him.

"And...why would that be?" Purple asked hesitantly. Purple really didn't want to get involved in any of the drama involving Orange right now.

"I don't know. I don't know what's  wrong. But something  just feels really off." Blue answered him.

Purple groaned as he heard that. Just great.

Before he could complain though, Blue talked again.

"Have you seen anything suspicious lately?" Blue asked him.

Purple thought to himself for a moment. He remembered the things he had seen. He didn't want to say too much though, it could be really bad if everyone knew.

So instead they decided to say the half-truth.

"I...yes." Purple said, but decided to wait for Blue's prompting to continue. Purple started glancing at the doors to the room, watching out for anyone that might walk in on them.

Blue looked worried at that statement. He looks at Purple, waiting for them to continue, but they don't. He waited there, gripping the bars in the vent, glancing back and forth nervously.

"Can you tell me what you saw?" Blue asked, a little softer this time. He seemed to be picking up on Purple's nervousness, which Purple was grateful for.

Purple wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning, but he felt like they should say it, just to be safe, if things really were wrong like Blue had claimed.

It probably wasn't anything, and Blue was just paranoid after being locked in this place for, what, 30 years? Purple wasn't even sure anymore.

Purple pointed through the door and into the hallway.

Blue's eye followed his hand as he looked in the direction they were pointing. Blue was silent for a moment, contemplating.

"That's the way to Red's lab." Blue said slowly, his expression almost unreadable now.

He seemed to be waiting for Purple to say something else, but Purple really didn't want to get involved, so he decided it would be best to let the action speak for itself.

Blue sighed as Purple further defended their own silence, "Do I need to actually say anything for you to understand what I'm talking about?" Purple said, still sounding sour, growing even more impatient the longer Blue took to figure it out.

Purple liked Blue, really, he did, but he hated how slow he was sometimes.

He couldn't even tell when intruders slid under boxes and walked around during their hunts. He had thought that Blue would at least be able to see that a literal walking box wasn't normal, but apparently not.

Purple grew mad just thinking about it.

That was it, they had had enough of this bright room, the uncomfortable and suspicious questions, along with Blue trying to solve a mystery by himself with only his own stupid brain to process the information given to him.

Purple slid back away from the opening of the vent without another word, and didn't stop, even when Blue told him to wait.

He didn't stop, the darkness was so welcoming and calming, but most importantly, he was finally alone, and could let out a sigh of relief.

He then decided that Cyan would make much more pleasant company, and crawled off into the vents to find her.
