//CHAPTER 9.3

Orange

In the quiet hush of dawn's embrace,

A gift appears, a shimmering grace.

Unwrapped with eager hands, a treasure found,

A moment of joy that knows no bounds.

....................................

"I believe that this is long overdue, Green." Red said, taking Green's hand and placing the box in it. Green closed his fingers around the box, feeling the edges.

Orange didn't take his eyes off the box. It was a trap, it was a trap, it was a trap-

Green seemed confused, but Blue nudged his shoulder. "Open it." He whispered.

Green gripped it a little tighter in his hand, his arm trembling slightly. He slowly opened the box. Orange couldn't see what was inside it from where he was standing.

It was a trap, it was a trap, it was a trap-

Green felt the object inside, his long fingers gingerly trailing over it. "Wh...what is it?" He asked quietly.

Orange watched with bated breath as Blue pulled it out of the box for him.

It...wasn't a trap.

In fact, it looked like a useless piece of metal and wires. Orange tilted his head, confused. He glanced over at Yellow and Cyan. Cyan had a confused expression on her face, and Yellow was watching silently, seeming puzzled.

Blue smiled widely and rotated the object in his hands. Orange watched, now less suspicious and more curious.

"Hold still for a second, will ya?" Blue said, and Green obliged. Blue reached out and placed the thing over his face, pulling the strap in the back tight and securing whatever it was.

Barely a moment after Blue had placed it over his eyes, Green gasped excitedly, jumping up. At first, Orange thought that it was a gasp of fear, but quickly calmed himself down as he realized that Green didn't seem upset.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Cyan leaned forward, concerned. Yellow was watching with interest.

"Wait a minute..." The yellow monster said, realization dawning in his face. "Is that what I think it is?"

Orange glanced at him curiously. "What?"

Green squeaked with delight from where he was standing. He turned to Blue, and although Orange couldn't see his eyes, he could tell that Green was full of joy.

"Blue! I can see you!" He squealed, leaning forwards and wrapping his long arms tightly around Blue, who seemed shocked for a second, but after a moment, melted into the hug, wrapping his arms back around the other monster.

"Wait, what?!" Orange said, doing a double take.

Green could see? Every other thought seemed to leave his head as he tried to process the new information. Did this machine give Green the ability to see again?

Orange heard one or two gasps, but he couldn't figure out who did it. He was too busy staring at Green, who was still tightly hugging Blue.

He remained silent as he watched the two embrace. Orange felt a surge of emotion as he realized what this meant for the both of them. As he watched, he realized that Blue had tears running down the side of his face.

After many long moments, Blue finally let go, and Green turned back around. His eyes weren't visible, but it seemed that the excited monster could see them just fine.

"I can see you...all of you!" Green said, still squealing with delight.

Cyan walked over to him, looking at the machine on his face in awe. "You can see us? Can you see me?" She asked him, smiling widely.

Green nodded frantically. "Yeah! It's still really blurry, but I can see that you're right in front of me!" He said, looking her up and down.

"How many fingers am I holding up?" Cyan asked jokingly, and Green playfully nudged her shoulder with his long arm.

"You don't even have fingers!" He exclaimed, still grinning widely.

Orange shook his head, getting his bearings. He watched the interaction with shock. He was honestly surprised that it had been a device for Green to see with, despite the fact that Green had been promised one a long time ago.

Orange glanced at Yellow, who was also looking with wide eyes. "How...is this even possible? I thought it wasn't possible!" He said, shaking his head slowly with disbelief.

"Well I guess it is." Purple muttered from the vents. Although Purple didn't sound excited, Orange knew that he often didn't show his excitement like the others.

Red was also watching with interest. Orange noticed that he was occasionally glancing at Purple, however. Orange took mental note of that but decided to ignore it for the time being.

Orange walked over to where Blue was standing, moving against the wall to get to him. He looked up at Blue, noticing that he was still hiding his face.

"Are you...okay?" He asked hesitantly, not quite knowing how to react to the normally calm monster shedding tears.

Blue sniffled quietly for a second, then wiped his face with his arm. "Yeah, I just...I'm really happy for him." He said, watching Green hug the other Rainbow Friends one by one.

Orange watched him for another second, but then decided to leave him alone for a moment. He finally gained the courage to walk forwards and congratulate Green.

As he neared, Green saw him and turned to look at him, something that unnerved Orange a little after all that time of him being blind. Green reached out and brushed his arm against his head.

Green smiled mischievously down at him, "You know, you look shorter than I thought you were."

Orange pushed his arm away, smiling back at him. "Hey!"

Orange found himself caught up in the same excitement that everyone else seemed to share, knowing that things would be different now, for the better.

As the Rainbow Friends enjoyed their time together, Orange thought that maybe, things would finally start to look up for them.

Sure, he still had a collar on, and they were all still bloodthirsty killers, but was it so impossible for things to take a turn for the better?

After this, Orange truly hoped it was possible.

And there you go. A short but wholesome chapter for the murder monsters.

Just a heads up, the next chapter might be a little late. It entirely depends on how busy I am, but I'll still try to get it posted in time.

May you have a good day/night!
