Chapter 21: The ball

Recap:
“She looks gorgeous!” said Sean stepping in as well. I looked at Jude and he looked

well he looked HOT! I think he should wear tuxedos everyday! Hell, he made the tuxedo

look good. He had gelled his hair a la wolverine style and it really looked good on

him.
Mrs. Smith and Sean went down as I clasped the ear rings and chain. Jude came and put

his hand out and asked, “Cinderella are you ready for the ball?” I took a deep breath

and said, “Ready!”


Jude’s P.O.V

I stared at Natasha and couldn’t get over how gorgeous she looked. I took her hand

and we walked downstairs together where everyone had gathered. The huge lawns had

been beautifully decorated and looked like a scene out of a fairytale. I searched the

crowd for the one person that I was waiting for but I couldn’t see her anywhere. I

smiled at Natasha and she smiled back nervously. Suddenly we found Sean in front of

us already wearing his mask. He handed ours over to us and we wore them. We proceeded

forward where dad and mom were standing in their mask. A small crowd surrounded them.

As we reached dad started talking.

“May I have your attention everyone?”

The crowd stopped talking and looked towards us. I looked at Natasha who looked at me

in panic. Ah hell, why was dad making such a big deal about my engagement? I gulped

and shrugged at Natasha while squeezing her hand reassuringly.

“Well all of you know the occasion for today’s party is my Son’s engagement!” There

were loud cheers at this and I rolled my eyes as I realized most of the noise was

made by cousins.

“We would like you all to meet our future daughter in law- Natasha” he said pointing

towards here. Natasha took her mask off and smiled at everyone. Several camera

flashes went off in her face which left her little dazed. Damn it! Of course the

press would be present! What with my dad being such an important businessman and all.

Natasha looked t me still a little dazed and I stepped forward and put my arm around

her waist. She leaned back like she needed the support. I turned to the crowd and

said, “Thank you so much everyone for coming here to bless us and wish us. We really

appreciate it.”

As if on cue Sean started the music and everyone started towards the dance area,

while I left my dad to answer the questions from the press.

“Jude! What the hell was that all about?”

“I am so sorry Natasha! I should have foreseen it but I was so pre occupied thinking

about whether Stephanie will come today or not it completely slipped from my mind!”

Natasha stopped walking all of a sudden. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing!”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes Jude”

“Ok then shall we dance?”

Natasha giggled and took my hand as we walked towards the dance area.

I groaned as I heard the song being played. Sean was in charge of the play list and

this was so Sean to match the theme and the song.

“I love this song” squealed Natasha.

At the last line I pulled Natasha towards me and gave her a peck on the lips and all

the people watching us went awww. Natasha looked at me in surprise and I winked at

her as we kept dancing. As the songs changed so did the dance partners. The last I

knew Natasha was dancing with Sean. I found myself dancing with a blonde woman who

wore her mask but her eyes were so familiar.

“Steph?”

She bit her lip and nodded.

“When did you come here?”

“A while ago”

“Why didn’t you come up and meet me?”

“I could hardly do that with your entire family standing there Jude!”

“Oh damn! I forgot mom and dad hate you with a passion.”

She grimaced and nodded.

“Stephanie what do we have here between us?”

“I don’t know Jude but I do know that leaving you was the biggest mistake of my

life.”

“I don’t know what to say. I thought we were always meant to be.”

“Yeah me too, but we can still make it happen.”

“How I am going to marry Natasha in a month.”

She laughed humorlessly. “Jude you cant marry her!”

“Why not?” I asked bewildered.

“Oh come on. Look at you. You are supposed to be getting married to her in a month

and yet you are dancing with me in your arms.”

I let the implication of what she said settle on me. I pulled away from her suddenly

and walked off.

“Jude! Jude wait.”

“What?” I snarled at her.

“We can still make us happen. I know it Jude. Please just please think about it.”

“What about Nick Stephanie? What about him huh? Did you guys break up?”

She wouldn’t meet my gaze when I asked her this and I realized Nick knew nothing

about her rekindled interest in me.

“I have loved you Jude. Nick was a moment of weakness. A mistake that should have

never happened.”

“If he was a mistake then how is it that you are still with him?”

She didn’t answer and I walked off angrily.

Natasha’s P.O.V

I saw Nick break off his and Stephanie’s dance and walk away towards the pool. I

decided to follow him but Sean stopped him.

“Leave him be Nats.”

“How many times Sean? How many times will that bitch crush him over before he

realizes she’s no good?!”

“I don’t know Natasha. But what I do know is that you do care about him.” He smiled.

“Well of course I care about him. Jude is the first real friend I had after Joey!”

“Er yes but your affection isn’t the friendly kind Natasha.”

“WHAT?”

“Jesus! Calm down.” He looked around and smiled around reassuringly.

“What?” I asked again lowering my voice.

“Well I have seen you look at him and I have also seen him around you. What you guys

have between you is more than friendship. No hear me out before you say anything, I

think that you guys could make this work, maybe you don’t have to break it of after a

year.”

“Sean! Not here!” I said quickly glancing around.

“Oh alright then but give it a thought and we are so going to talk about this later.”

I just rolled my eyes. I couldn’t wait for tomorrow to come. As soon as we had

breakfast we were going to head back. I went to get myself a soda nodding at a few

people who smiled my way. Gosh! I was in the public eye and it was unnerving. I liked

being unnoticed but it seemed everyone knew who I was. I scanned the crowd for Jude

hoping he was back or else people were going to have something to gossip about. I

soon spotted him talking to a cousin of his. He was standing with his back towards

me. I walked fast to where he was and decided might as well make this believable. I

snaked my arms around his waist and asked, “Missed me?”

He turned around in surprise and to my embarrassment it wasn’t Jude at all!

“I –I I am so sorry!” I stuttered.

He looked at me in amusement and said, “Its ok! It was an honest mistake. Besides

people mistake me for Jude all the time.”

I stared at him in astonishment. Who was he? Well whoever he was, he was gorgeous.

Like make my heart race, make me weak in the knees gorgeous! He had perfect features,

dark blue eyes, dirty blonde hair like Jude’s that had the just out if the bed style.

His physic was something to die for. He was a breathtakingly gorgeous as Jude but he

had this mischievous aura around him that made him more adorable.

Suddenly the stranger leaned closer and whispered, “Take a picture it lasts longer.”

I looked at him in surprise, “I was just surprised because you look strikingly

similar to Jude only Jude is better looking.” I said with a smirk.

He looked at me in surprise and then raised an eyebrow as if to say, is that a fact?

Before I could say anything else Sean was there and said, “Natasha I see you have met

cousin Wade!”

“Wade that’s Natasha, Jude’s wife to be.”

“Pleasure to meet you” said Wade and took my hand and brushed his lips lightly

against it. I shivered at the contact and pulled my hand quickly.

“Same here Wade.”

“Well” said Wade, “Where is the groom to be? I can’t seem to find him.”

“Well I’ll go look for him but Wade you must dance while you can before they all stop

and move towards food.”

“Sure Sean. But I don’t seem to know anyone but my cousins who I dare say are already

engaged with some man or the other.”

“Ask Natasha” said Sean and waved us off as he went to search for Jude.

“Well may I have this dance?”
I shrugged and we went towards the dance floor. There was an awkward silence between

us.

“So Wade, what do you do?”

“Well I have been absorbed into the family business.”

“Oh you’re an architect as well?”

“No, my father has a fleet of ship Natasha. We rent them out, sometimes we use them

to export and import stuff. Weird I thought Jude would’ve told you.”

I smacked myself mentally and tried improvising, “Oh I remember now. He told me but I

got confused. You guys have a huge family.”

Wade laughed and said, “I know right? A newbie would get confused.”

We danced to four songs and it was fun. Wade was funny and he made laugh all the

time. He told me a little about himself and we discussed music as a new song came up.

We had a lot of similar choices.

As the fourth song ended Wade pulled me close and said, “I have to give it to Jude.

He really knows how to pick the gorgeous ones.”

I blushed and said, “Thank you.”

He smiled a said, “My pleasure.”

I turned around and started walking towards the food area when Wade pulled me back

and looked into my eyes. It was intense. Blue eyes should be banned I tell you! I

couldn’t move, I couldn’t breathe all I could do was stare into that expanse of blue.

I saw him looking at my lips and I licked them nervously. He smiled softly and bent

close. My heart was hammering in my chest. His mouth was near my ear and then he

whispered, “I know your secret.”

A/N: Sorry for the delay! But i wil make it up to you guys. I will upload another chapter tonight itself :D I will also upload a few more by tomorrow. I am trying my best to finish it soon because i have 3 new story lines in my mind and want to get started on them.
