Escaped: Chapter 42

I was sitting on my bed with my earbuds in, thinking, which I had been doing a lot of lately.

I had my music up loud so I didn't hear the door open but I felt the bed sink lower and someone's arms wrap around me from behind.

My headphones were taken out and someone was speaking in my ear.

"Hey," Liam said. "Whatcha doin'?"

"Nothing," I said, moodily.

"Well, we should do something," he smiled.

"Oh so now you have time for me?" I snapped.
Sure, maybe I was overreacting a little bit, but I really was not happy.

Liam spun me around.
"What are you talking about?"

"Nothing," I said, again.

He looked at me skeptically for a second and asked, "Are you on your period?"

"What? No!" I snapped.

"Then what's your problem?" He asked, his voice rising a little.

"Nothing! I just..." I trailed, off realizing how stupid I was being.

"Tell me," he said, sternly.

"I just kind of..." I sighed. "I feel like you're never here anymore. I mean, I know your here, here. But..."

He cut me off, looking a little dejected.
"Charlotte it's just-"

"Business, I know. I told you, it's nothing. I'm just overreacting."
I tried to give him a small smile.

He looked at me for a second.
"Come on," he said grabbing my hand.

"Where are we going?" I asked as he pulled me off the bed and out the door.

"To the lake," he said.

-

It was strange, the little phobia I had developed. It wasn't like I was afraid of water or anything. I just didn't seem to like lakes.

I stood there on the edge in my shorts and blue bikini top.

"It'll be okay, Char," Liam soothed.
He stood on the bank, my small hands in his. "I'm right here, you're fine."

I stared at the water, unsure.

"Let's just get it over with," I said.

"Alright," he said. "Ready?"

He grabbed my hand and we jumped.

The water was a little cold, but not too bad. It wasn't dark. I could see the sun shining through the water, I could feel it's warmth.
Most importantly, my arms and legs moved just fine. I kicked to the surface and broke through.

Liam was next to me, his short hair plastered to his forehead.
"Not too bad, yeah?" He grinned.
