Escaped: Chapter 49

A/N: Kinda long. Sorry.

I gasped and let out some kind of a muffled, squeak.

Angel just glanced and at me and muttered, "Sorry."

Harry stepped forward and sent bullet into the last guy.

'What the hell?!'

He looked up at Angel.

"She was my sister," he grunted.

Was he seriously arguing over who should've shot who?

I felt a hand on my shoulder and I looked up to see Jack, the really tall one.
I realized my face was still horrified and my mouth half opened.

"Come on, man," he said, addressing Bobby.

"Yeah," Liam said walking over to us. "Let's get going."

-

We were packed into three separate vehicles: the Mercer brothers, Jerry, Angel, Jack, and Bobby, were in their own car: a 1980's model Cutlass Supreme. Liam, Eleanor, Louis, Harry, and I were all in the Range Rover and Niall, Zayn, and Perrie were in the Avenger.

I broke the silence.
"Who are those guys?"

"Friends of Gemma's," Harry said in the seat behind me. "From high school."

I nodded.

"So they're all brothers?

"Mmhmm."

"But two of them are ... white, and the other two are, ya know, black."

Liam chuckled in the seat next to me. Harry and Louis laughed from the back.
Eleanor was sleeping on Louis' lap.

"They're all adopted," Harry explained.

"Oh," I giggled. "I gotcha."

The lightness was returning to the mood.

Liam reached over and put a hand on my knee. He looked at me.

"I'm sorry, Char," he said.

I shrugged, placing my hand on his.
"You didn't do anything wrong," I told him.

He sighed.
"But if it weren't for me-"

"No buts," I said, intertwining out fingers. "You didn't ask for this to happen. That's all there is to it."

He fell silent and stayed that way for the rest of the drive home.

-

Two days after the we returned to Gemma's, we said goodbye to the Mercer's and Liam called us all into the living room.

We were all a bit shaken up but, for the most part, we were okay.

"I've been thinking," he said. "Where ever we go, someone seems to find us."

We all stayed silent, unsure of where he was going with this.

He continued.
"I thought maybe we should go somewhere far away. Where no one can find us."

"Like where?" Niall asked.

"Cape Verde," he said. "They don't have any extradition so we wouldn't have to worry about cops."

Perrie's face broke out into a grin and she clutched Zayn's arm.

"That would be amazing," she said. "The beaches there are beautiful!"

"Let's do it," Louis called.

Liam nodded.
"Start packing; we'll leave in two days."

Everyone got up and left to pack their belongings, leaving me and Liam alone in the living room.

I walked over to him and kissed his cheek.
"Cape Verde," I said. "Exciting."

"Listen, Char," he said, taking my hand and looking at me.

There was something in his eyes I had hardly ever seen: sadness.

"Liam, is everything okay?" I asked, concerned.

"Yeah, everything is fine," he started but then shook his head. "Actually, no. It's not. I don't want you to come."

I stared at him in disbelief.
"What? Liam what are you talking-"

"I want you to stay here. Charlotte, I do not want you to come with us."
