Chapter 10

New Beginnings

Robert dropped me home after a seriously exhausting day. I was dreading work the next morning knowing that I would see Jessica, the betrayer. How dare she suggest that I would do the same thing? I should have ripped her throat out for even insinuating that. I realised that my feelings had been revitalised by just speaking to Stephen, since earlier on, when she had 'apologised' I couldn’t even feel angry, now the feelings were flowing through me, making me feel slightly overwhelmed.

"Is everything alright with Stephen now?" Jasmine wondered, as I began to get settled so that I could sleep.

"Yeah," I replied tiredly.

"What exactly happened?" she questioned, reminding me that she had no clue what he was. It had dawned on me that only I and Robert knew that vampires really existed.

"He was attacked by a group of evil people," I answered, not exactly lying. I would explain everything to her in due time.

"What?! Was he alright?" Jasmine cried, covering her mouth in horror.

"Yeah, he's much better now. They had thought that he was someone else," I informed her.

"I should kill those ass--," she began only to get cut off when her boyfriend wrapped his arms around her stomach and cuddled her into him.

"Who are you going to kill?" Danny whispered in her ear, nodding a polite hello to me.

"Some assholes beat up Stephen cause they thought that he was someone else. Mistaken identity my ass," Jasmine explained as she snuggled into him.

"Is he alright?" Danny asked me, his eyes watching me intently.

"Yep, he's fine and so am I, thanks for asking," I smiled, answering his silent questioning eyes.

"Well its late so I think we'll leave you alone to sleep," Jasmine stated, nudging Danny and nodding her head down the corridor.

"Alright, thanks. I am a bit tired," I realised as they say goodnight and left me to get ready for bed.

"Something's happened, she's slightly happier than normal. I mean she smiled at us and it wasn’t fake." I heard Jasmine say on the other side of my door.

"I know, but what are we supposed to do. I mean that's a good thing isn’t it?" Danny commented.

"Yeah but ---," Jasmine started as I opened the door watching them cringe.

"You're talking a bit too loud," I smirked, rolling my eyes at them.

"We were talking about Jennifer," Jasmine lied terribly.

"Yeah, whatever, just talk about her somewhere else please," I suggested, smiling at Danny who continued to stare, as though inspecting me. Closing the door once again, I noticed that what they had said was true. It was funny how just organising a date with Stephen made me the tiniest bit happier.

The next morning I woke up in a sweat once again as the nightmares of my miscarriage replayed in my head as it had been doing since the incident. Walking towards the bathroom, I glanced at myself and frowned when I noticed how I looked. My hair looked as tired and dull as my large brown eyes and I had lost a lot of weight which for my initial size was not good at all. Taking a shower, I noted that I would get a makeover to begin a new chapter in my life after having such a bad end to the last one.

Putting on my work uniform, I decided to eat breakfast for once and tried to ignore the odd glances that I was receiving from Danny and Jasmine.

"I'll see you guys later," I said, as I headed towards the door.

"Wait Mel! One of my friends are having a party today and we were wondering whether you would be looking up to going," Danny informed me. Two days ago, I would have said no but right now, I was trying to pick myself up and so my answer was,

"Sure, why not."

Walking into my office, I was bombarded by four large pairs of arms as I was squeezed into a bone crushing hug.

"We're so sorry we weren’t here Mel," Robin cried

"Yeah Mel, we're real sorry," Martin repeated as I gasped for air.

"Let. Me. Go." I hissed causing them to quickly release me. Gasping for air, I stared at the two men whilst they exchanged a weary look.

"It's fine. Let's not talk about me. How was your trip?" I questioned, not in the mood to remember or speak about the past at that moment in time.

"It was good…" Martin answered, shrugging.

"If that's all you're going to say… Hey, would you guys like to come to a party with me tonight," I asked, not wanting to sit with only Danny and Jasmine who would probably want to dance together.

"If you're up to it, we'll definitely be there," Robin replied, a concerned look in eyes.

"I'm not gonna drink myself to death okay, or jump off a bridge, so just get back to work and I'll text you the details," I sighed, pushing them out of my office.

"Oh and keep Jessica away from me and my office please." I remembered, not wanting to accidentally make eye contact with the witch.

"Don’t worry about that," Robin insisted, saluting me before they both left me alone to work.

I looked at myself in the mirror once more as I took in my new appearance. The red hair made me look fiercer and I couldn’t help but love it. I had asked the hair dressers to give me a new, dangerous, yet appealing colour to change me up a bit and I absolutely loved the new wine colour. I hadn’t asked them to cut it however, so it still flowed over my shoulders and to my mid back, but tonight I had put it in a bun with only a couple of stands hanging. I put on a cheater skater dress with black heels and my black blazer, since I wasn’t sure where I was going so I didn’t want to be too dressed up.

"You ready Melanie? If you don’t want to come, all you have to do is tell us," Jasmine yelled on the other side of the door, just as I was about to open it.

"Wow," she smiled as she took me in.

"I love the hair colour," Danny smirked from the front door.

"Took the words right out my mouth babe," Jasmine grinned.

"I just wanted to change it up a bit, start a new chapter," I mumbled, shrugging.

"Well then, let's leave and get the party started," Danny chuckled as I walked through the living room towards the front door only to stop dead in my tracks as my heart hammered against my chest.

"What are you doing here?" I whispered, not able to find my voice as Stephen lounged on the sofa, looking sexy enough to eat, making me sound as though I was the vampire.

"They thought that you might have needed some company, so they invited me," Stephen told me, standing up and striding towards me. Glancing around, I saw Jasmine and Danny staring at the scene in front of them as my heart continued to hammer painfully against my rib cage.

"You look beautiful by the way," he complimented, his dark orbs drawing me in as I inhaled his sweet cologne scent.

"You look pretty handsome yourself," I replied before we left the house.

"Why did you invite him?" I shrieked quietly into Jasmine's ear as we approached her car.

"You seemed happy yesterday so we guessed that you'd have more fun with him there," she winked. My waist was suddenly gently grabbed and pulled into the opposite direction of Danny's car causing my whole torso to warm up due to his touch.

"Sorry Melanie, but you're driving with me," Stephen huskily informed me, making my ear tingle as his lips brushed past. I was so not ready to be in a car with him, alone. How the hell was I going to get through the whole party and the date that I had suggested.

God help me.
