Chapter 14: How did everything get so complicated?

“Not so feisty now are you?” He asks.

I look around and see the music has stopped and people have made a space.

Where the hell is Sam?

“Let me go.” I say with unexpected confidence.

“Not until you tell me who you’re with? Hm? Which team are you on?” He asks.

What the fudge is he talking about?

Finally, I see Sam coming towards us, “What the hell?” He raises his voice as he gets closer, “Get you hands off my girl Robert.”

Robert releases me, “Didn’t know she was with you Sam.” He says, no apology or anything.

Sam just scoffs.

“Now remember who’s in charge Sam.” He threatens.

Sam just nods and drags me out.

“Okay, first of all what the hell? And second of all why would you take me here?” I shout as we get out, of course it has to be raining.

“I didn’t know any of this was going to happen!” Sam replies.

I fist my trembling fingers to try to calm myself.

“Get the hell away from her Romani.” I hear from behind me.

I turn around and see Jay, Seth and Zach standing there.

“How about no?” Sam replies.

“Wait, you know each other?” I ask.

Sam laughs, “Oh, we have history.”

I’m guessing it’s not good history, since Seth, Zach and especially Jay look like they’re about to kill him.

“When you said Sam, we didn’t think it was this Sam.” Jay says.

Sam frowns, “You know these douches?”

I step back, “These douches are my friends, and you didn’t answer my first question, why did you bring me here?”

He looks at me, “I needed some business to tend to.”

“Right, so I was just your baggage?” I ask.

Sam looks at me apologetically.

I scoff and start walking toward the boys.

“Hazel wait.” Sam says, grabbing my wrist.

“What does that tattoo even mean Sam? Are you in a gang or something?” I ask.

He just looks at me.

I gasp and break out of his grasp, “You’re in a bloody gang?” I shout.

“They’re not any better.” He says, pointing to the guys.

I turn to them, “You’re in a gang?” I ask.

Jay steps forward, “Correction. Were. We were in a gang.”

Sam scoffs, “That’s a load of bull. Once in a gang, always in a gang.”

“We’re working on it.” Seth replies.

But I don’t want to listen to the conversation anymore, I spin around and walk into the rain, out of this horrible mess.

“Hazel!” Someone calls.
