James and Thalia were having a seemingly normal evening in their cozy cottage in Somerset. Dumbledore had kept his word and given both Potter siblings safe houses to hide from Lord Voldemort. Eloise and Sirius' small town house was in the sea side city of Brighton where they spent all of there time with the 3 month old Alfie. It had been a quiet few weeks. The friends had visited each other as much as they could whilst in the midst of a war but they mostly just kept to themselves, communicating majorly through coded letters. Thalia and James had quickly gotten used to the uneventful lifestyle and began to feel like an old married couple just going about each day as they came. That evening, they had enjoyed a romantic dinner that they had spent hours cooking together. They had danced around the living room to the cheerful sound of the Beach Boys and after had settled comfortably on the sofa, James' arm around Thalia as she rested on his chest. Thalia felt utterly serene as she listened to the rhythmic sounds of James' breathing, both of them relishing in the silence. Just as the woman was about to close her eyes and drift into a soft doze, something very bright flew into the room. James sat up abruptly, recognising the rabbit patronus immediately and Thalia stared wide-eyed at where it sat on the carpet. It only uttered two words but those two words were enough to make Thalia feel like her heart was being squeezed inside her chest, like her lungs were being twisted and her insides being tied into a knot:

"He's here."

It took a matter of seconds for James to grab Thalia's arm and apparate to Brighton. Thalia could tell by her fiancé's grip that he was the most scared he had ever been in his life and she felt the exact same way. James sprinted towards the house he knew to be his sisters but just before he got to the door, a flash painted all of the windows green.

"NO!" James shouted and quickened his pace, Thalia right behind him as he burst through the already opened door. Silence. Tears streamed down Thalia's cheeks as she begged, prayed for a sound. Eloise screaming; Sirius bellowing; Alfie crying: anything. All she could hear were James' hurried breaths as he barrelled through the house, not caring about what he knocked over as he searched every room. Thalia was frozen, staring at the broken glass on the floor and the splinters on the door frame from where it was blasted open. It was only when James let out an ear-splitting scream that she came back to reality. She followed his shouts and almost collapsed as she entered the dining room. Her hands raised to her mouth and she shrieked, her eyes filling with even more tears. James clutched at the man's shirt, shaking him and bellowing for him to wake up. But he was motionless. Thalia fell to the floor and pulled at her hair. Sirius lay dead on the floor. His usually glowing skin pale and ghostly. The twinkle from his steel eyes gone and he stared into nothingness. Thalia felt the world fall to pieces around her as she held Sirius' cold hand in her own. James sobbed into his best friend's chest. Thalia had never seen him so broken. Suddenly, she remembered.
