For without it, we'd never strive
It can be harsh and daunting, too
But at the same time, it can be our due
It can make us stronger and more wise
And give us the courage to open our eyes
To see the beauty in life
To feel the joy, free of strife
It can be a harsh teacher
But it can also be a preacher
