*Tuesday October 1st * - Melissa's POV

It was a fairly warm day for fall in London so I decided to pick Bella up from 2nd grade with our dog in the car and take her to the park. Dogs are allowed in the park if they are leashed but I let her off leash to run since she is a well trained dog and there are only a few other people here. Bella was playing Frisbee with her so they were both having fun. Just over an hour later I decided it was time to go home. I texted Wren that we were leaving the park and asked him to start cooking dinner. A moment later I looked back to were Bella and our dog were playing but they were both missing. I checked the playground and found Bella. She was playing and our dog was siting near her watching. 

"Mommy you found me." Bella said

"You scared me." I said

"I thought we were playing hide and seek." Bella said

"No remember we only play that game at home." I said

"Why can't we play hide and seek in the park mommy?" Bella asked

"It's for your safety Bella. The park is bigger and I don't want you running around by yourself." I said

"I'm at this park all the time so I won't get lost." Bella said

"I know Bella but even though this is a safe neighborhood you still have to be careful. I'm not trying to scare you but when you are old enough to watch the news then you will understand." I said

"Am I in trouble?" Bella asked

"No but your dad might want to talk about this a little more with you tonight." I said

"Well then don't tell dad." Bella said

"I will make sure he understands that you are not going to be in trouble for running off to the playground without telling me." I said

"Thanks mommy." Bella said

It was such a nice day today that we decided to eat dinner outside and then watch the sunset.

"So Bella what did you learn at the park today?" Wren asked

"Nothing." Bella said

"Are you sure Bella because your mom talked to me while you were taking a nap?" I asked

"I learned not to run around by myself in the park because I'm only 7 years old and I'm to young to be by myself." Bella said

I cleaned up the dinner dishes and Wren is watching Bella play in our backyard before it's dark and nearing Bella's bedtime. I heard our dog barking and didn't think that anything was wrong at first but moments later we were rushing to emergency vet. A wild animal had been hiding in the trees behind our house and bit the dog who was trying to protect Bella. Thankfully, Bella was uninjured but scared after what had just happened. Our dog saved her life and now we were trying to save the dogs life.
