THE WORLD WAS not what it once was. Ungodly creatures roamed every town and city, causing chaos and destruction for over twenty years. Kathy Williams had seen it from the beginning, she'd seen her family torn apart, her niece orphaned. While the zombies mutated, Kathy adapted to the new world around her as well. She became a survivor, someone strong enough to protect the only person she had left and she made sure Ellie would be able to fend for herself if they were ever separated. Although, it didn't seem to help because Ellie got bit and Kathy had felt like a failure.
But she never turned.
Kathy vowed from then on that she would never let Ellie go off on her own ever again, she could not lose that little girl. They went to the fireflies for help and discovered she was immune. With this new knowledge, Marlene, the leader of the fireflies, told them Ellie was the key to finding a cure and they prepared for the journey to the fireflies' top doctors in the next county. But plans changed when Marlene got hurt, sending Ellie and Kathy off with two smugglers who'd get them to their destination in exchange for a shipment of guns.
Over the next few weeks Kathy would make friends, lose more people she grew close to and develop a soft spot for the hard headed Joel Miller. All while hiding a secret that could ruin everything.
