I was at a loss for words. Marriage! And to
C/N! It made my heart do flips. "He's asking for father's blessing!" I said as reality hit. The girls giggled.

"WHAT?!" We heard from the living area. I looked to the girls before running over. John, Jeremiah, and Rensselaer were staring C/N down as father scolded them. "What happened?" I asked. They all faced me.

C/N looked to my father, who gave a shake of his head. My heart shattered. I felt one of my sisters grab my hand in theirs. "Nothing." C/N said sadly.

"O-Okay. Supper is almost ready." I said before running back to the kitchen.

I buried my face inside my hands. "Oh Y/N." Elizabeth said. I tried not to cry. Father didn't like it when we cried.

"She can't know!" I heard father hiss. "I saw her face! She knew he wanted to ask!" My mother countered quietly. I listened quietly. "She is twenty! Angelica, Elizabeth, and Margarita have yet to marry!" Father fired back.

I inhaled quietly. "But that shouldn't stop Y/N from chasing her ambitions! She is in love with that man!" Mother said, making me blush feverishly.

I heard father sigh. "In a year. I will allow it in a year." He said. "Two months." Mother challenged. "After one of her sisters marry." He said. "Okay."

I glanced to my sisters. The pressure was on them.

After supper, I gave C/N a kiss on the cheek. He turned a bit red and kissed my hand. "Pleasure to spend the day with you." He said. You dipped your head. "Get home safe." I said as he left.

I turned and faced father and mother. "Can I be excused to my room for the night?" I asked. Mother gave me a sympathetic look and nodded. I rushed upstairs and into my room.

I collapsed into my bed and started to cry. My heart was broken into a million pieces. Who knows how long until either of my sisters marry!

There was a knock at my door and I stood. I checked my mirror and wiped my tears, becoming presentable. "Come in." I said. The door creaked open.

"Y/N, Catharine wants you." I heard John whisper. The boys could tell I was hurt.

I nodded and left my room. I followed my little brother downstairs to Catharine, who was balling her eyes out. I jogged over and took her from Jeremiah, who was confused and holding her improperly.

I rocked her in my arms. "It's alright Caty." I cooed gently. Her crying slowed but didn't stop. "Where's mother and father?" I asked my siblings. They pointed outside. Great. Whenever father and mother were outside this late, they were fighting.

I sighed and rocked Caty more. She eventually went to sleep. "Where are Angelica, Elizabeth, and Margarita?" I asked. I just noticed they weren't in the room either.

They pointed outside. What?! "John, put Catharine to bed." I said, handing the sleeping tot in his arms. I ran to the door and peeked out.

My sisters and mother were fighting my father. "Why punish Y/N over the fact she was born later? And because us three haven't found husbands yet?" Angelica yelled.

"Watch your tone, Angelica Schuyler!" Father snapped. "She did know!" Margarita blurted. Everyone visibly tensed, including me. "What?" Father asked, voice almost quaking.

"She knew C/N was asking for your blessing." Elizabeth clarified. Mother put her hands on her hips. "What did I tell you, Philip?" She snapped. His faced was guilt filled. "Oh no." Father murmured.

I couldn't bare it. I went back inside and quietly shut the door.

"Off to bed, the four of you." I said. Cornelia gave me a concerned look. "What about Margarita?" She asked. I walked over and extended a hand to her. "She'll be up soon, don't worry." I said as she took my hand.

"Come on boys." I said. Rensselaer crossed his arms and shook his head. He was so difficult! Jeremiah kicked his heel and Rensselaer swatted him.

"Rensselaer! Bed, now!" I said sternly. I was having an off evening already, did he have to make it worse. John whispered something to him and he complied. The boys started walking up, but I stopped John.

"What did you say to Rensselaer?" I asked. He shrugged. "Nothing." I frowned. "Get to bed now." I said in an annoyed tone. I lead Cornelia to her bedroom. I got her ready for bed and kissed her forehead goodnight.

I snuck to my bedroom again and actually changed into my night clothes. I crawled into bed and heaved a sigh.

Why didn't father understand? C/N is a good man! I groaned and put the pillow over my face. I was never going to marry in time!

Elizabeth was so gentle and soft, no man truly deserved her! She was so pretty though, that almost counters it.

Angelica was such an outspoken woman, she needed an equally outspoken husband, and one that didn't mind her tongue.

Margarita was father's little girl. She obeyed his rules and was the one thing keeping Cornelia from wailing all night long. It will be a while before father allows her to marry.

I inhaled sharply as I removed the pillow from my face. Father was leaving though. Maybe mother will go back on their deal, though she wasn't one to do such things. There was truly no getting out of this. I was never going to marry C/N.
