Sanaa ☯️

My heart hammered against my chest as I scrolled through the various news articles I stumbled across on the internet. The paparazzi did succeed in getting a few pictures but a rush of relief filled my body when I realised they failed to capture my face.

The advantages that Abel and I had was that we did not follow each other on social media and my main account had no pictures of myself.

I couldn't help but pick on every detail of me on those pictures that I found unpleasant. I didn't even bother to check the comments due to their unpredictability. A loud sigh escaped my lips as I placed my phone on the nightstand. I proceeded to get ready for the day.

As I got ready, my phone instantly filled with messages from Abel, who was profusely apologising for Saturday's events. My eyebrows furrowed as I answered his messages in a reassuring manner. It wasn't his fault; he did not need to apologise.

A sudden knock at my door broke my train of thought.

"Yes?" I replied, which signalled the person to come in.

"Good morning, did you sleep well?" Ama greeted as she sat on my bed.

"Good morning, I did and you?"

"It was bearable," she lazily shrugged before switching the topic. "I hope your date went well."

"It was nice," I replied as a faint smile appeared on my lip.

"I saw the articles," she said in a quiet tone. "I hope you're alright."

"I did find it a bit strange but I'm fine. It's even surprising to me that they didn't find out sooner."

"You do have a point," she nodded. "Has he contacted you?"

My answer was cut short by my phone's ringtone.

"He's calling," I told her before answering the call. "Bonjour," I greeted.

"Bonjour, I saw the articles. I'm so sorry. I should have planned our outing in a better way," his deep voice responded.

"As I said, it's fine," I giggled to lighten the mood.

"I know that you aren't fond of such things so I cannot help but feel guilty," he said.

"I know but it is impossible to always have control over things," I said to him. "You always did your best to protect me and my family from your public life and I am grateful. Besides, there was no way we could've hid from them forever. I adore you so don't think that a few pictures will cause me to run away from you."

The other end of the line was silent for a while until he said, "Thank you, I really needed to hear that."

"I know," I replied, smiling to myself. "Now get ready for your day."

"I will," he chuckled. "I adore you too and have a great day," he said before hanging up.

"You compliment each other so well," Ama smiled while placing a hand on her chest.

"I think so too," my mouth said before my mind could.

The feeling of satisfaction consumed me as I saw my computer shut down. I had just finished my assignments for the week much faster than usual, which meant more time to pursue other things.

I decided to open Instagram to check the growth of my recently created professional account that had compilations of old and new pieces of work. An Instagram notification came, which notified me that I just gained my 20,000th follower.
