Jade walked around kicking rocks on the sidewalk for another half hour away from her house and street . She felt hopeless and talentless, she always thought she was good at dance or at least she like to believe so and her teachers always gushed about how much of a natural she was at it but she had just heard from her own father that she wasn't even that good

So was she terrible at her favorite thing in the world?

Eventually she decided to head back home because it was almost dinner time so she slowly made her way back to her large house. She saw her father expensive car gone presumably to work so pushed open the front door again to hear her mother humming softly while she could smell dinner cooking upstairs. She sighed before hiking up the stairs and heading towards the kitchen

"Oh hey honey, little late home aren't you?" Anna asked timidly looking at the stove clock

"Oh yeah- I just felt like walking" jade lied shrugging and going to put her bag down and sit at the table

She couldn't tell her own mother that she'd just heard her father say she was a waste of time and money

Anna turned off the stove and put the spoon down before going to sit with jade with a warm smile plastered on her face

"Soooooo, good news you can take those vocal lessons you've been wanting to do for a while"

Jades face lit up for a split second before frowning at her mother

"Daddy's gonna let me take them?" She asked glimmering with hope

"Well-no-no not exactly but he doesn't need to know, I know you really want to do them and I'll drive you to and from"

"Why won't he let me?"

"I'm not sure sweetie but you don't need ya permission you have mine and that's enough"

Jade slumped back in her seat even more and started to consider the option

She did really really want to take them and she knew she could sing a bit plus it would be another good hobby and talent to show off but she also really wanted to impress her father which at this point seemed just impossible.

He'd always been so proud of her when she was little even if she didn't do well but ever since she started dance nothing she did was ever right to him no matter how great

When she won the most outstanding student award at dance last year it didn't count cause it was dance and nothing important like school or academics

When she got 96% on the hardest math test of the year in third grade that also didn't count because someone still go higher than her and someone was better

Someone was always better than her

He would come home from work and tell her and her mother about all his coworkers children and how much they excelled at real hobbies and academics and then he would cast a weary glance at jade with a look they said "why can't you be like them"

She sat there thinking for another few minutes before eventually deciding on an answer

"I'll do it"

She knew it would upset her father but was the worst that could happen maybe he'd finally accept her when he heard her sing for real

Little did she know what he near future held for their relationship

Sorry it's  really short and a cliffhanger

I'm still trying to kinda drag it out

Do you want me to drag it out or get it over with?

The next chapters gonna be rough
