Chapter 12

A little under a month later on August 19th 2004 David and Anna west were officially divorced

Anna took her maiden name Scott again but jade and joss kept the last name west else it would have taken a while longer to switch both the last names and Anna and David didn't want to spend anymore time together than they already did

Jade and joss stayed to live with their mother, originally David wanted to take joss to live with him and Anna could keep jade- he didn't say why he wanted to keep joss more than jade but she knew why, anyone could figure it out

Jade wouldn't let David take joss, Anna also didn't want him to take joss but she didn't want to fight about it, jade however very much did want to fight about, she already knew he hated her so what was one more fight added to their long list of previous ones

She knew that with Her fathers busy and very unorganized hectic work schedule there's no way he'd ever be able to care for the infant. He was always getting called to court quickly and for long periods of time and would refuse to waste any extra money hiring a babysitter

For once in her life jade actually won an argument and Anna got to keep the both of them with her in the house. He didn't like losing so he just brushed it off saying he never really wanted to keep him

David moved out and found a nice house closer to his work, because it made no sense to make the three of them move out of the big house, but he still had to pay child support every month for the two of them

Anna needed to find a job now but decided to wait until Joshua was a bit older, and the money he left plus the chid suppose each month would cover them For the time being

The day after he moved out joss was in his room asleep and jade was lying on her bed with her mind racing

She couldn't help but feel like all the fighting and the divorce were entirely her fault

If she hadn't started starting talking about dance and singing and begged her parents to let her take classes all this fighting never would have happened. Cause it had only started after she started classes

Maybe if she hadn't secretly taken the signing lessons the divorce wouldn't have happened because the fighting wasn't that bad until he found out

If only she hadn't been so stupid and accidentally let slip that Anna was bringing her to singing lessons maybe the divorce wouldn't have happened

After 20 more minutes of anxious thoughts she came to the conclusion that Her parents divorce was her fault and her fault only

"Hey honey, how ya doin" Anna asked quietly tipping open her door to slip in and sat on the edge of her bed

Jade sat up on top of the covers

"Fine, just thinking" she said looking down at her hands

Anna paused for a minute

"Watcha thinking about" she pressed hoping she would open up to her, jade had been so uncharacteristicly quiet since they announced the divorce and it worried her a bit

Jade pressed her lips together, usually she'd talk to her mother she always did and she always understood and knew just the thing to say

But this time was different

She already knew what Anna would say, she'd just hug her and assure her it wasn't her fault

Which was a lie this time

"Middle school" she lied

"Are you excited? New school new teachers new friends" Anna said sounding excited and more hopeful

"I guess. Look I'm kinda tired would you mind if I slept? Maybe tomorrow we could go clothes shopping or something"

Jade was trying to make Anna feel better by trying to spend time with her

"Ok, I like that idea! I look forward to it" anna said, getting up off the bed and smiling at jade "goodnight, have a good sleep"

"Night"

Jade didn't have a good sleep. She was up most of the night feeling guilty
