Kieran's POV:
I had yet to see Jade today but as I stood by my locker I couldn't help but smile. I'd finally be able to be around my girl today. I knew I was whipped, but who could really blame me? Jade was the type of girl you fell for.

I was stuffing my bag into my locker when I felt someone's shoulder hit into me. I turned to see Harlan glaring at me.

I tried to remain calm. I told Jade that there would be no more fights. I was done trying to start shit with Harlan.

"What do you want Shepard?" I glared back.

"I want you to stay the fuck away from Jade." He shoved me and my back slammed into the lockers.

I could feel all eyes on us. Everyone was ready for another fight, I wouldn't give it to them.

"I can't do that." I shook my head.

"Just leave her alone. We all know you're trying to use her to get at me. I don't want her to get hurt so you need to just back off."

"Not everything is about you Harlan. Surprisingly my relationship has nothing to do with you." I shoved him away from me and tried to just leave.

Harlan grabbed my arm not letting me walk away.

"I don't know what game you are playing here but I'm not afraid to beat your ass again." He threatened.

"You only beat my ass because I wasn't fighting back. If I wanted to I could beat you until your face is unrecognizable." The thought of remaining calm was hard.

There was something about Harlan that just made my blood boil. I hated him and I had tried not to for Jade but her brother was the worst.

"Let's see it then." He egged me on.

Fuck it.

I threw my fist forward and let it connect with his face. Jade would kill me but right now I really didn't care about that.

"Cut it out!" I heard a girls voice and then there in front of me was purple hair.

"What the hell is wrong with you two? Seriously?!" The girl turned and I couldn't help but be shocked.

The last person I expected to break up a fight between Harlan and I was Stephanie.

"Just stay out of it Steph," I tried to move her out of the way.

"No you listen to me dumbass, why are you fighting him? What do you really have to gain from this besides hurting your girlfriend?" She asked me.

I didn't know how to answer that. I didn't really know what I was doing. It was just hard sometimes to not let Harlan get to me.

"And you, cut it out. You have no reason to be mad at Kieran." She turned to Harlan.

"Oh that's rich coming from you. Did you forget because I have a very good reason to hate Kieran."

"No you don't because you don't know the whole story." Stephanie said.

This seemed to surprise Harlan for a second before his face morphed back to anger.

"I know enough."

"So you know Kieran turned me down because he said he didn't mess with other guy's chicks? You know that I told him we fought and were on break so that he wouldn't think we were together anymore?"

I didn't know that Harlan hadn't known about all that happened that night. I just figured he chose to see the good in Stephanie no matter what and always see the bad in me.

"Why would you do that?" Harlan asked quietly.

"How can you still not see it Harlan? I'm an asshole ok? I'm the bad guy here. You always tried to see me as this perfect girl but I never was. Anytime I fucked up or hurt you you'd just turn the other cheek and pretended it didn't happen. You wanted me to be this girl that I wasn't. And even now you can't see it, I was never the girl you thought I was. We were never meant to work and somehow I was the only one to see that. I wanted a guy to see my flaws and love me because of them not ignore them and try to turn me into someone I wasn't."

I couldn't say I'd ever felt bad for Harlan, but in this moment I couldn't help it. The look on his face was one of someone who had just gotten his heart crushed.

"I-um," Harlan stood there for a second before turning and walking off.

"Are you ok?" I asked Stephanie.

She looked at me with tears in her eyes.

"Yeah I just didn't want to have to hurt him like this. Even after everything I did he still cared about me more than anyone else ever has." She sighed.

"He'll be fine, just processing." I assured her.

"You know you're a good guy Kieran, I told Jade that. I want good things to happen for you." She smiled weakly at me.

"You too, I hope you find that someone you're looking for." I pulled her into a hug.

"Kieran." I turned to see Jade standing there staring at us.

I pulled away from Stephanie and smiled at my girlfriend.

"Hey babe." I wanted to pull her into my arms, I wanted to kiss her but I'd refrain.

"I'll see you guys around." Stephanie waved before walking off.

"Can we talk?" Jade asked and she didn't look all that happy.

Shit. I mean I knew I was fucked the second I punched her brother but I was hoping for some more time.

"Yeah." I nodded.

I led her to one of the classrooms I knew was empty and then waited for her to talk.

"What were you thinking Kieran? You said no more fights. You promised me you'd let it go."

"Im sorry," I reached out for her but she stepped away.

"I just can't keep doing this. I'm stuck in the middle of you two and it's exhausting." She said.

"No more fights and this time I mean it. I let him get to me and that's my fault." I didn't want her to walk away from this.

I couldn't lose her.

"I just need time to figure this out." She turned and walked out of the classroom.

I wanted to cry.
