eliana set her phone down with a little smile and took her jacket off, then swung her leg up onto a wall to stretch. a man carrying a tv camera and a sports reporter, sarah mccleary, came up to her. "hi, eliana, would you mind talking for a little bit? it won't take long." eliana smiled and stood up straight. "i wouldn't mind at all!" sky shook the blond boy next to him as eliana came onto the screen. "ben. wake up, dude. el's on tv." ben blinked a few times and yawned. he snapped to attention when he saw his girlfriend's smiling face. everyone in the room put down their phones and turned their attention to the tv. "eliana, how does it feel knowing that you're favored to win another four world championship medals?" "it's surreal, honestly." she laughed. "i'm just excited to compete today." "your new bar routine turned lots of heads on thursday. was that the work of your new coach, peter carlisle?" she nodded. "yeah, peter and i worked together on it. he asked me what skills i wanted to showcase, and put it together, so it's a really beautifully crafted routine." "it's certainly impressive. lastly, do you have anyone here or in the states watching you today?" a smile broke onto her face. "yeah, my boyfriend and his friends are touring, in california right now, and they woke up at four to watch this today." she waved at the camera. "i miss you guys! this is for you." she blew a kiss at the camera. "well, best of luck today, eliana." the reporter walked away, and she continued stretching. ben was still smiling up at the tv. "i love her so much." he whispered. "love her?" sky repeated. ben's eyes went wide. "did i say that out loud?" sky laughed. "uh, yeah." ben ran a hand through his hair. "have you told her?" he asked. "um, no, no, i haven't." "are you going to?" "i don't know if she'll say it back." ben said. "i want to. i really do." "then just do it." sky said. "she loves you, dude. i see it every time you guys run into each other's arms like you're in a stupid rom-com." ben laughed. "yeah, i guess you're right." "as soon as we pick her up from the airport. tell her." "damn, sky." ben shook his head. "it's barely five in the morning. let me watch my girlfriend win this thing." eliana dropped into a split and grabbed lola's hands to stretch. "your parents here?" "yeah, right up there?" lola pointed to a older couple that looked just like her and waved. eliana did the same and smiled at them. "are yours?" lola asked. "i mean, i know about your dad, but..." "my mom's at a convention, but she's watching." eliana said. "what about that jordan guy? the one who helped with easton?" lola started to blush. "he's watching. they all got up at four this morning." eliana giggled. "what, do you like him?" she said in a sing-song voice. lola smiled down at the ground. "i just think he's cute." "oooh! lola!" eliana teased. "maybe i should text ben..." she reached for her phone, and lola dived on top of her. they collapsed in a fit of giggles as the announcer came over the system. ladies and gentlemen, we are about to begin the 2015 world championship all around final! gymnasts, please proceed to your first events. eliana's feet hit the ground, and she threw her hands up into the air. a tv camera followed her as she jumped off of the beam mats. she hugged peter and smiled as she stared up at the jumbotron, waiting for her score that would determine whether she won or not. ladies and gentlemen, she needs a 15.57 to win this thing. can she do it? eliana shook her arms out. and she does it! eliana dempsey with a score of 15.68 on beam! her teammates surrounded her as she jumped up and down with them. ben grinned and clapped his hands together. "that's how we do it." eliana caught a glimpse of the camera and winked.
