The next day you were woken up by sunlight breaking in through the blinds. You groaned and rolled over before rubbing your eyes. After a moment of registering that you had woken up, you rolled onto your back and sat up. Glancing at the clock, it was 10:00 am. Wow, you had really slept in. Jade had already gotten up, and you could safely assume that she was already downstairs. You yawned and looked around the room absentmindedly. Band and horror movie posters lined the walls, and various articles of clothing and objects were scattered across the floor. To your left a few feet away was Jade's bed, and in between was a window which was across from the door. The room was a nice size, not too cramped, just comfortable. The walls were colored a light blue, and the furniture was made from dark wood. You sighed and rubbed your eyes once more before finally getting up.

You slipped on a gray hoodie before leaving the room and heading downstairs. Air conditioning always seemed to somehow work against you, in summer it was way too cold, and in winter it was way too hot. It's funny how these things worked. Downstairs only Emery sat on the couch. Today was Saturday, and the next meeting wasn't until tomorrow. That left the entire day open to do whatever the hell you wanted.

"Morning." You greeted as you sent a smile Emery's way. She smiled as well before standing up and heading to the kitchen just as you were,

"So yesterday before I went to sleep, I looked a bit more into Slenderman..." She leaned against the counter as you grabbed a box of cereal with a nod. "Well, I found this thing called Slender sickness. It sounds kinda far-fetched, but I think I might have it."

You turned to her as you set everything down on the counter, "Oh? I haven't found that yet, what is it?"

"It's a thing that apparently happens when people start looking into him. It's like nosebleeds, coughing, headaches, and stuff like that."

You knitted your brows, "Has that been happening to you? When did it start?"

"Yeah... It started around four days ago, a bit after we started researching." She frowned a bit, "I think I'm also getting more paranoid. I keep feeling eyes on my back, it's weird..." You nodded and thought for a moment,

"I'll look into it later today, have you told the others?"

"No, by the time I figured it out they had already left."

"Okay, make sure to tell them when they get back. If this thing is real we need to look into the sickness."

Emery nodded before heading back to the couch. She looked concerned, and you could see why. If this being had the ability to make those that sought out his truth sick, who knows what else he can do. It's said they he can teleport, that he can potentially read minds, and maybe even shapeshift. While your group definitely thinks that he has a good chance of existing, you along with everyone else are still skeptical. Until you have solid proof, everything is only opinionated. If he does exist though, your group could be in danger, especially if he really can cause illness.

Slenderman is an interesting creature. His frightening image has been clouded by the Creepypasta fandom, thus causing most to think he's fake, though he may be, everyone simply assumes. Jeff the killer, Eyeless Jack, and Ben drowned are only a few examples of various characters that make no sense and can't possibly be real. Their stories were spread online, and ever since then people have been changing their characters and morphing them into romantic emo boys with a little blood on their hands. Similar things even happened to Slenderman, it's strange, but if they somehow exist and don't want people to know, perhaps it's a good tactic.

With a sigh, you finished pouring yourself some cereal and put everything away. You shoveled a few spoon fulls into your mouth as you walked back to the living room to join Emery. You plopped down beside her and smiled a bit. She seemed to have zoned out, so you nudged her with your elbow gently. Her eyes widened before she saw that it was you and calmed down,

She chuckled a bit, "Sorry..."

You nodded reassuringly and continued to eat. You hoped that this project wouldn't get into her head or anyone's head. Whenever that happened they were in danger, not necessarily of the creature, but their own mind. They'd start isolating themselves, and they'd push everyone away. In the two years, you'd lived with them, that's only ever happened once, and you never wanted it to happen again. It happened a year ago, and surprisingly it was Jade. Your group had been going back to the basics, spirits and demons, and she had gotten a bit too caught up in it. It took a while to notice because she's never very upbeat, but eventually, you figured out what was going on. Everyone helped her through it, and she explained what was going on and everything she had found along with her concerns.

Apparently, one night Jade wanted to test a ritual out but didn't think it'd work. It did, and she was terrified. She didn't see anything, but there was definitely a presence there and it spoke to her. It threatened her and told her that if she spoke about this, it'd kill her and your entire group. Once your group finally got her to open up, you put salt everywhere that needed it and started burning incense. The demon never showed itself again, and you've all been fine ever since.

Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Emery shudder a bit. You turned your head to face her and sighed,

"Everything's going to be fine Emery. We won't let anything happen to you."

She sighed and looked down a bit, "I know, but if he is real, this could be really bad..."

You nodded in agreement, "Yeah, but everything about investigating the paranormal is dangerous. Nothing's gotten us before, we'll be fine as long as we stick together."

Emery looked up at you with a small smile, "You're right. If we don't face any danger, we're not looking hard enough."

You chuckled, "I guess that's one way to look at it." You went back to quietly eating your breakfast as the silence faded into a comfortable one rather than a tense one. Emery seemed a lot less freaked out, and you hoped it'd stay that way. Paranoia wasn't good for anyone, especially not for a long period of time.

Time passed and eventually Sadie and Jade came back. You had returned upstairs, and once you heard the front door open you headed back down.

Emery had already begun explaining what happened and the sickness and everyone agreed that the group definitely needed to research it. Once the short unplanned meeting was complete, you headed back upstairs and continued your research.

You had to admit that you were somewhat excited about this project. There was something... fun, about knowing that whatever you were researching about might know about your actions. It was indeed frightening as well though. If he did exist, this project wasn't going to be easy.
