MEGAN MOORE

The rest of the workday was spent with Charles, he assisted me with various tasks showing me where everything was, what I would need to do daily, where I logged everything before the day finally came to a close. I knew I acted like a prize princess and I needed to rein that in from now on.

I left on time, I got into my car and pulled off my jacket before leaving the car park. Driving at a reasonable speed I made my way to my home, there waiting on my doorstep was my best friend with a bottle of wine in each hand and smile on her face. "So," she flashed a bright smile at me. "Tell me all about your first day? Was it as amazing as you thought it was going to be?" She had so many questions and I had only just exited the car. "Was there any nice looking men?" She continued with her barrage of questions as I unlocked the front door.

"Nice to see you too, Alice," I smiled as I pushed the door open and stepped inside before holding the door open for her. "Would you like to come in, Alice?" I laughed as I flicked my heels off then looked at my friend who looked less than impressed.

"Hey," she spoke calmly, "I left work early to come and see you. I wanted to hear all about your first day."

I waved her into the living room, "I'll get some glasses."

She obeyed and headed into the sitting room, I took a deep breath and headed into the kitchen where I grabbed two wine glasses from the rack before going to sit with her. I let my body sink into my black cushioned sofa as I held the glasses up high in the air.

"Here," she took the glasses from me before using the coffee table to stand them on, pouring two glasses of red wine, her favourite colour. Picking up a glass she offered it to me which I took before I smiled and took a sip.

"Thank you," I was grateful for the alcohol that was now making me feel a little more at ease.

"Come on then," she leaned against the pillows as she looked at me, "Tell me about today."

I picked up the telly controllers and switched it on, just to have some background noise. "I dunno," I sighed as I turned the television down before looking at my best friend. "I think I might have made an idiot of myself."

"Hey," she laughed as she shook her head, "You cannot top my first day. My trousers fell down in front of my new boss, but look at me, now I am excelling."

Sometimes she didn't understand, our lives were totally different. "If I mess this up I have to try my hardest to get a new job doing this. It's not the same as your job."

Alice smiled at me, "I know my job isn't the same but I can't imagine myself anywhere else now."

I decided not to talk about it anymore with her, sometimes she didn't understand that her average IT job could be done for any company. Driving in Formula One was something that didn't come along every day, besides I only had a few other skills if this didn't work out.

"Shall we go out?" She asked as she got to her feet and picked up her handbag which she had left the other side of the coffee table. "Matt owes us a few drinks after Friday."

Going out on a work night was not a good idea but I knew that tomorrow couldn't go any worse than today, surely? "Okay, okay," I sat up straight and put my wine on the coffee table. "But no shots."

XOXOX

My previous statement was disregarded when around midnight and two glasses of wine, four cocktails, two jack daniels and cokes and four shots later I found myself throwing up as I left the taxi at my home. I had thrown a few notes in the direction of the driver but ultimately I didn't want to vomit in the back of the cab knowing it would incur a large fee.
