"They're destroying the village" Joan says.
"The watch"
"John, Jane don't."
"Closer."
"Can you hear it?" Timothy asks.
"Closer."
"I think they're asleep. Waiting to awaken" I say.
"Little man."
"Why did they speak to me?"
"Oh, low level telepathic field. You were born with it. Just an extra synaptic engram causing." I gasp and I look at them. "Is that how they talk?" I ask.
"That's them. All you have to do is open it and they're back" Martha says.
"You knew this all along and yet you stood back and let us be mean to you" John says frowning.
"I didn't know how to stop you two. They gave me a list of things to watch out for but that wasn't included, well it was but I didn't know how to stop it" Joan looks in the journal by moonlight through the window.
"Falling in love? That didn't even occur to him?"
"No, I mean him and the Seer are married, they did say no matter what they'd always be together, and that I guess is somewhat true."
"And now you expect us to die?" I ask.
"It was always going to end, though! The Doctor said the Family's got a limited lifespan, and that's why they need to consume a Time Lord or in this case Time lords. Otherwise, three months and they die. Like mayflies, he said."
"So, your job was to execute us."
"People are dying out there. They need them and I need them. Because you've got no idea of what they're like. I've only just met them. It wasn't even that long ago. But they are everything. They're just everything to me and they don't even look at me, but I don't care, because I love them to bits. And I hope to God they won't remember me saying this" an explosion can be heard close by.
"It's getting closer" Timothy says.
"I should have thought of it before. I can give them this. Just the watch. Then they can leave and we can stay as we are" John says looking at me.
"You can't do that!"
"If they want the 'Doctor' and the 'Seer', they can have them."
"They'll never let you do it."
"If they get what they want, then, then..." I try but start sobbing John wraps his arms around me trying to comfort me.
"Then it all ends in destruction. I never read to the end, but those creatures would live forever to breed and conquer, for war across the stars for every child. Martha, Timothy, would you leave us alone, please?" Joan says Martha and Latimer leave. Joan hugs me along with John. The bombardment on the village continues
"If I could do this instead of you, then I would. I'd hoped. But my hopes aren't important."
"They won't love you"
"If they're not you, then I don't want them to."
"And it was real. We weren't real. I really thought" I say between sobs.
"Let me see. Blasted thing. Blasted, blasted thing. Can't even hear it. It says nothing to me" I look up and put my hand over Joan's and the watch.
"Did you see?" I whisper.
"The Time Lords had such adventures, but they could never have a life like that."
"And yet we could."
