I stare at the skyscrapers standing tall and proud against the blue sky littered with soft white clouds. They looked daunting and confident, with the ability to make me feel small. The cityscape was dark but shining as the sun hit the glass windows of the buildings. The grey roads stretched out for miles, clumped with yellow taxis and streets full of hustling pedestrians.

This was New York City at first glance.

The large city was about to become home for the following year, maybe more if I needed it. My smaller quieter city hadn't prepared me for the sheer size of this. While I wasn't a fan of noise and activity all around me, I would adjust for the sake of it all. If my father could, why couldn't I do the same, but better?

The black sedan that picked me up now stopped in front of the tall brownstone house. House probably wouldn't cut it. It was large even from the exterior's compact look. I step down and climb the short stone steps before hitting the large dark green door's knocker thrice. The driver pulls out my luggage one by one.

The black wooden door opens immediately and a short dark skinned woman with reddish brown hair greets me then welcomes me in. I step through the neat polished hallway and into the open space.

The white marble stone floor shone bright under simple copper chandeliers. I catch my reflection on the wall hung oval mirror. My dark hair hung in its usual pony tail, letting my face show. My pale skin looked ghostly and my black eyes sunk with grey bags under them. It was a sight to behold. At least my grey blouse was clean matching my black pants and converse.

My attention is quickly taken away from the horrid reflection by the clicking of heels. "Camille, nice to meet you finally!" the blonde haired woman from my dreams, moves forward to give me what I suspect is a hug of pretentious pleasure. Quickly stepping away, I show my honest expression of disgust and irritation.

"I'm not exactly here to play house. I came to meet the woman my dad is throwing away his real family for." My voice is low so my father doesn't pick up what I say as he makes his way down the stairs. Though my intentions would soon be put to the limelight, right now I needed to get in and establish ground before they can kick me out.

She steps back, icy blue eyes blinking, not sure of what to make of the situation. I'm certain now my father has spoken of my former obedient good girl characteristics.

Ah, how you can never avoid a label.

Unfortunate for her that he never knew my life all too well. If only he paid attention to the details, the cracks. The good girl was long gone now, and he didn't even know he played a part in getting rid of her.

My father reaches the last step, straightening his grey coat. "Cam, I'm so glad you came." His brown hair was styled neatly back and his eyes were bright and excited.

I wonder if he was glad to see his only child or whether it's because his plan was finally smooth and on a certain path. Because if I knew anything, it's that he always had a plan. After all, as my father, he taught me that.
