Professor McGonagall's classes were always hard work, but today was especially difficult as Kirra tapped her wand on the desk, re-reading the spell movement in front of her for what felt like the twentieth time.

Everything Kirra had learned last year seemed to have leaked out of her head during the summer, maybe it was from when Dudley had pushed her and she knocked her head on the counter a few weeks ago or when Dudleys best friend Piers had tried to kiss her but she pushed him away so their friends began to hit her.

She was supposed to be turning a beetle into a button, but all she managed to do was give her beetle a lot of exercise as it scuttled over the desktop avoiding her wand, which seemed to be happening to a lot of the people around her including Maxine whos face was almost as red as her hair due to the rage she was beginning to feel.

Mattheo had been able to successfully turn his beetle into a button and he sneered over at the short Hufflepuff who was running her hand through her messy brown locks "well little badger, what happened did you get stupid over the holidays? I thought that you were the top of the class, looks like things change," Mattheo told her with a smirk and she rolled her eyes at him before putting her wand down and turning around to face him.

She opened her mouth to say something but then slammed it shut and turned back to her beetle before picking up her wand and repeating the spell, successfully turning the beetle into a button, a smile came to her face and she jumped around a little bit in happiness. 

Mattheo rolled his eyes before he quickly looked down at his button, hiding the small smile that had made its way onto his face as he watched her jump around excitedly. A warm feeling filled his entire body as he tried to ignore the girl at the table beside him who was sporting a wide smile

The lunch bell rang and Maxine let out a large groan "thank merlin it's over" she groaned out and then they quickly put everything away and filed out of the classroom.

JJ walked up behind them and showed them a handful of buttons which he had been able to successfully transfigure during class "oh shove off Maybank, no need to boast" Maxine scowled and JJ and Kirra looked at each other and giggled

"I don't know what you are laughing about 'little badger' you spent the whole lesson flirting with Riddle, that you only transfigured one button, you're meant to be top of the class," Maxine said with a smirk and the two Hufflepuffs immediately stopped laughing

"Shove off Maxine, if you call that flirting then I am seriously concerned for your love life, he was picking on me and the fact that im feckin stupid, oh yes because I just love it when he makes fun of me," Kirra said sarcastically and Maxine only smirked wider

"You say that, but im telling you now, I totally see the two of you ending up together in a few years" Maxine replied while JJ and Kirra roll their eyes once again

"They are mortal enemies Max," JJ said to her, "they would make a horrible couple, they literally have nothing in common and can barely stand each other."

"Alright, lets make a bet then, if the two of them end up together then you owe me 10 Galleons" Maxine bets and JJ raises his eyebrows and then nods his head

"alright you're on JJ says and it was as if they had forgotten that the person they were betting on was still walking with them

"What've we got this afternoon?" said Kirra, hastily changing the subject, no longer wishing to talk about Mattheo Riddle.

"Defense Against the Dark Arts," said JJ at once. "Why," demanded JJ, seizing Maxine's schedule, "have you outlined all Lockhart's lessons in little hearts?" Maxine snatched the schedule back, blushing furiously.
