Chapter 4: Priced Possession

“Here are the books that I borrowed last week...” The student library assistant smiled as she took the pile of books between us. “I didn’t see you here for like two days, found a new environment?” She asked and I couldn’t help but to blink.

Didn’t know that she was keeping tabs on me.

“Uhm no, had no free time.” I replied.

After updating my library slip, I already headed upstairs where my classmates are. We miraculously had our last subject as vacant when our professor announced that they have a meeting to attend.

“Vacant niyo rin?”

I asked Lauren who’s also focused on finishing her paper.

“Salamat sa Diyos.”

She answered, raising both of her hands, praising the heavens.

“May gagawin ka pa?” Estelle asked who’s in the middle of organizing her notes.

“Wala na halos.” I answered as I occupied the bean bag right beside hers. Timothy blurted before throwing us the canned drinks he bought from the vending machine.

“Aray! Kitang hindi ako nakatingin eh!” Asik ni Lauren

“Shh..we’re still in the library.” Estelle said who already finished her business.

I comfortably sat as I let them do the things they don’t want to do during the holiday break. “Kailan pala balik niyo dito nila Dwight?” Timothy asked Estelle.

“Night of January 02, we’re already back here.”

The latter answered.

“Around 2:00 in the morning.” I asked.

Timothy said.

For a moment, everyone fell into silence. Estelle already has her eyes closed; Tim’s browsing his phone while drinking his chocolate drink, Andy’s already saving her file, and then there’s Lauren.

“Hoy.”

I said as I tried reaching her, nakatulala na kasi ang babaita.

“Sorry, bakit?” She asked, shaking her head off.

“Okay ka lang ba?” I asked, taking Estelle’s attention. She reasoned out, mukhang may hang over pa sa finals exams namin last week. “Ang bilis no? Andy said as she shut her laptop down.

Tim said.

Andy pointed out.

“You’re not coming?” Estelle asked, and when I was just about to tell her that my mother and I have plans for that night, my phone suddenly vibrated.
