Chapter 32: Clean Slate

“What’s your boarding time, again?” Kyle asked after he locked his vehicle.

As we both walked out of the airport’s parking premises, I busied myself from double checking my things. “An hour and a half from now.” I answered after glancing at my watch. Raising my head, removing my eyes from my phone, I just realised that we’re actually about to cross the busy road.

He asked, even fixing the straps of my carry-on bag from my shoulder.

I then gave him a nod, “Most of them are already waiting at the boarding gate.”

He even pushed back the strands of my hair from my face before giving me an approving smile. “Ang ganda-ganda mo talaga, Nessa. Na t-tempt na naman akong halikan ‘yang baba mo. Pero behave lang ako, no to PDA tayo ‘di ba?” He murmured before letting out his handsome chuckle as he stood closer to me.

No words came from me, I just stood there and watch him closely.

Akala ata nito mag i-ibang bansa ako...

“Come home to me after a month?” He said, already handing me my luggage.

“Don’t miss me that much.” I grinned.

Kyle then scoffed. “Grabe, simula nung lumipat ka sa Green Hills parang mas nahihirapan na ako kapag hindi agad kita nakikita. Parang gusto ko araw-araw na akong naka buntot sa’yo. Feeling ko hindi ko na kayang mag-LDR ulit tayo.” He said, followed with a chuckle before hugging me for a brief moment. Ever since I left Winsborough and started residing at a high-rise condo in Green Hills, Kyle actually is already an inch close to moving in with me. Halos araw-araw siyang pumupunta sa condo ko, and he profusely asks if he can spend the night at my place especially during our day offs from work.

He even already has some of his things on the other room of my unit, from his clothes to his other stuffs. Kyle basically lives on my place already, hindi lang kami nagkakasama kapag hindi nagtutugma oras ng mga uwi at shift namin sa hospital.

But there are also times when I’m at home during the day, waiting for my night shift, and then Kyle would drop by my place after his 12-hour night shift, only to hug me. Kadalasan umuuwi rin siya sa bahay nila after, pero minsan, kapag alam kong pagod talaga siya from work, I already encourage him to sleep in my place.

“Sige na, baka hindi na kita mapa-alis, Nessa.” Kyle said.

He reached for my hand and placed my palm against his lips, planting a kiss on it. “Enjoy helping people out there, Nurse Vanessa, message me whenever you can, okay? Ayaw ko nang mangulila, Nessa.” He continued, making me shake my head at him.

Tip-toeing, I already planted a kiss on his cheek.

“Make sure you’ll be the first one I’ll see welcoming me once I return home.” I said, and he nodded at me frantically while smiling like a good kid. “Be careful, okay? Lampa ka pa naman, also drink your meds!” He said before I lined up at the queue heading inside the airport.

I only waved my hand at Kyle without even glancing back at him.

Nakakahiya.

Shivers were sent to my spine as I got off the boat we took to reach our target location for this week. Low-tide kaya medyo malayo yung kailangan lakarin para maka-abot sa pampang, the water’s on my knee-level and honestly, with the great morning weather and looking down at the clear sea-waters just makes it very inviting to have a dip.
