Chapter 16 (Part 2): Compromising’s Normal

Chapter theme: Out of the Woods by Taylor Swift

“Want to eat out for dinner?”

I asked when Kyle opened our house’ guest room’s door. Night of January 1st and Kyle already got me home.

“You want to? Saan tayo?”

He asked back, stepping out of the guest room.

“I’m fine with anything.” I shrugged, sliding my hand inside my jacket’s pocket.

Tumango na si Kyle at nagpaalam na kukuhanin niya lang ang iba niyang gamit. “I’ll drive.” I said, waving my almera’s key at him. “Mag d-drive ka pa bukas.” I immediately followed para hindi na siya makatanggi pa.

“May bukas kayang resto?”

He asked as he helped me from buckling my seatbelt. “I’m sure there are.” I said as I started driving.

Kyle busied his self from choosing what music to play in the background.

Nang makarating kami sa city proper ay medyo binagalan ko na ang pagpapatakbo, “Anything you have in mind?” I asked while we’re passing by the fast food chains that are open.

“How about Japanese cuisine?”

He asked, pointing at the nearing restaurant. I shrugged already pulled up to its parking lot.

“Grabe ang daya, what if mang gate crash tayo?”

Kyle suggested as he looked at my direction and I could only sigh and shook my head at him.

Lord, he’s helpless...

The restaurant’s unfortunately closed for a reservation.

We continued driving before we could enter the city of Logan Hills but we still found nothing we want to eat at.

In the end, we both ended up occupying the tables here at the 7-11.

“Nakakasawa na mag fast food, puro pa deli banaman si Nexon at L...” Kyle said what I also had in mind. “Okay na talaga sa’yo ‘yan?” Kyle confirmed, pointing at my cup of ramen. “Yeah, ikaw ba?” I asked back because he only bought a sandwich and a drink. “Yep, dami kong kinain kanina bago tayo umalis sa bahay.”

Remembering the dishes that Tito Leonard, Nexon’s dad, cooked for everyone was already enough to make me feel full.

“I have a question.” I said after drinking.

“Fire it.” He said, even tilting his head.

“Your second name’s Leanard, but Tito Leonard’s son is Nexon.” I said out of pure curiosity. “Ahh oo, a lot of people are asking nga about that.” He stated, turning his seat side by side as if playing like a kid.

“Tito Leonard was the one who rushed Mommy to the hospital when she’s having labor. Pauwi pa lang kasi si Dad galing work that time kaya si Tito Leonard nakaabot kay Mommy sa bahay.” Kyle shortly explained. “And the pronunciation’s the same right? Kahit magkaiba kayo ng spelling?” I continued.

“Yep!” He confirmed.

Just as I was about to finish my food, Kyle suddenly clapped his hand while munching his sandwich.

“Ako naman may tanong.” He said and I raised my brow, asking what it is.

“Who do you think has the best name from us? Sa’ming magpipinsan?”
