Chapter 22: One for the Books

Hearing Ate Pia’s faint voice all the way here inside the study room, only made me hug the throw pillow I’m holding even tighter.

“Ano na?”

I asked Kyle who’s sitting on the bean bag.

He’s nervous, I also am.

Suddenly, Kyle loudly gasped.

“Teka ito na yung link. Kingina kinakabahan na ako, Nessa. Ikaw na pala dito.”

He announced handing me his iPad, standing from his seat, but I hastily shook my head.

“No you lost earlier sa game, you do it.”

I immediately replied with finality.

Kyle ended up groaning and messing his hair as he dropped his self back to his seat.

I risked and played a simple game with him earlier.

Bato-bato pick.

Just to be clear, I didn’t mess up with the exam.

“What the fuck, wala lahat ng pangalan natin...kahit yung kila EJ at Tim...”

My heart dropped.

No shit.

Not saying a single word, I immediately reached for my iPad and started typing at the searchbar. “Ay wait! Link pala ‘to ng roster of May NLE passers gagi!” Hearing about his naive mistake, hindi ko na naiwasang maibato sa kan’ya yung unan na kanina lang ay yakap-yakap ko.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?!”

I couldn’t help but to ragingly yell as I already opened the new-released link of the NLE results for us November takers.

The last time I yelled like this was already a year ago.

Kyle then immediately apologised, also said na he’ll check the top notchers’ list.

“Arcega and Avila.”

I blurted out as soon as I saw Estelle and Timothy’s names Scrolling through the long list of names, ramdam na ramdam ko yung pagbigat ng hininga ko.

Oh my shit...

“Custodio.”

“We passed...We all passed.”

I said, with my iPad slipping away from my hand.

Ang hirap pa rin huminga,

Napatitig naman ulit ako sa pangalan ko.

Is this real? Licensed nurses na ba talaga kami?

Magiging nurse na ba talaga ako?
