"Damn I'm exhausted." I said through a few quick breaths.

"Why don't we hit up the saloon they have here? I googled it earlier and it looks cool, plus it's friday." Mae suggested as she got up from where she sat on the rug. I reluctantly got up from where I was laying on the bed and nodded. "I could really use a drink and a hot meal after all that." I agreed.

We had spent the whole day unpacking and then started clearing a large enough spot for her car outside the house.

We probably should have cleared a spot for the car first so it'd be easier bringing those boxes in. Oh well.

The sun was setting in the distance as we made our way out of the house. I brought my wallet and phone, keeping them safely tucked in my pockets. We took our time walking on the dirt path to town. Mostly talking about what I was going to plant at the farm. Growing up with a farming uncle made me love plants in general.

Not to toot my own horn but I was quite the greenthumb.

The dirt path eventually turned into a paved stone walkway that led to a large town square. "Woah." I breathed in amazement at how pretty the small town was. It had always been a small dream of mine to live in a closely knit community like this.

Then I realized. The townspeople will already have made their own groups and cliques. What if I didn't fit in with any of them? Would I just become the lonely farmer girl?

Mae must have noticed the look of anxiety on my face because she started talking, "Hey don't worry. You are going to fit in fine. Just don't be as antisocial as you were at all the office parties, or parties in general we went to."

Those words brought back all of the awkward interactions I had at parties. It's not like I'm terrible at socializing.... I just get nervous sometimes.

"Wow great words of encouragement." I said as I rolled my eyes at her.

We made our way across the towns square and to an older looking building. A large sign beside the door read, 'Stardrop Saloon' I also noticed a few vines going up the buildings sides, as if nature was trying to reclaim the structure.

"Here goes nothing..." I mumbled to myself before opening the old wooden door.

Mae and I walked into the bustling saloon. Of course on a friday night a lot of people would be here. I was obviously uncomfortable, but Mae linked arms with me and dragged me forward to the bar. We were met with a plump man with a very prominent mustache. "I assume one of you ladies is the new farmer? The names Gus and I'm the one who runs this joint. Well anyways, what can I get ya?" He greeted us with a warm smile as he cleaned a glass with a rag.

"Can we get a round of shots, anythings fine." Mae asked, already tapping her feet to the music playing. As he started pouring the shots, Mae asked him another question, "Is there any place quieter than the main room? My friend here isn't the type to enjoy big groups." She nudged me with her arm while she spoke.

"Yea to your right is the small game room, mostly where young adults like you two hang out." he answered her with a nod towards the room.

"Here you go ladies." He said before handing a tray of filled shot glasses to Mae. We thanked him and paid before making our way towards the branched off game room. To my dismay there were already others here.

Two guys were playing pool and it was obvious by their body language that the Blonde was losing. On a blue sofa in the corner, a girl close to my age sat and intently watched their game. Her hair was a pretty purple color and I couldn't help but be slightly jealous.

The member of this trio to notice us first was a guy wearing all black with an emo hair cut. His eyes seemed to scan and evaluate Mae and I, making me a bit uneasy. Were the people here already judging me based off of my looks? Mae defensively stepped in front of me slightly.

The blond seemed to notice his friend staring at something, so he turned around. His eyes first landed on Mae before looking down at me. Crap I'm shorter than everyone here.

"Oh hey! You must be the new farmer!" the tall blonde approached Mae with a big, friendly grin. "Mhm." she nodded along without saying a word. I wondered how long she'd have them believing she was the farmer here, after all she knew nothing about plants or animals.

Mae set the try of shots on a table in the corner of the room, opposite the blue sofa. I didn't realize, but the purple haired girl seemed to be sizing us up. Of course I followed behind her like a puppy.

"My name is Mae, it's a pleasure to meet all of you." she made her voice sound overly friendly and I couldn't help but cringe. "It's nice to meet you Mae, I'm Sam. I'm sure we'll become great friends." Sam's smile was almost infectious.

I couldn't take all of the smiling and greeting so I grabbed a shot from the tray and quickly downed it. It burned for a second, but wasn't too bad.

"These are my friends Sebastian and Abigail." He said as he motioned to the other two. Mae gave them a smile and a wave, but was met with silence. I felt Sam's eyes on me and knew he expected a greeting from me too.

I took another shot before sighing and turning to him. "Uh hi I'm Rose." I spoke quickly and felt extremely awkward, but I kept eye contact.

Sam continued to grin happily, but his friend Sebastian only rolled his eyes. Mae took a shot before going over to the couch, sitting next to Abigail. I only sighed and watched silently while the boys continued their game. Every once in a while I would overhear Mae's and Abigail's conversation. They seemed to be getting along quickly.

Already feeling buzzed, I took my third shot. Back in the city I would rarely get drinks with Mae, so I had completely forgotten my limit.

"Not fair! One more round Seb!" Same yelled out with a pout on his face. It was clear he was being a sore loser. "Oh you want me to kick your ass in pool again? Isn't this our fourth game today?" Sebastian had a smug smirk on his face and I could already tell he didn't smile often.

"But Seb... I have a feeling I'll win the next game!" Sam exclaimed, his point turning into a determined grin. "Nah sorry Sam, I'm done for tonight." Sebastian placed his cue stick onto the table and leaned against the wall near Abigail.

"I can play a round with you?" I offered without thinking. I guess this was my chance to not be so awkward, plus the alcohol was giving me plenty of courage.
