Edward Cullen returned to Forks.
I was terrified. Jasper and I continued to have lunch in the library, sometimes Alice would join us as well. He tried to reassure me that Edward was not going to hurt me, but I remained cautious.
And then, two weeks later, Bella nearly died. I saw it only moments before it happened. We had just arrived at school I was leaned against the hood of the truck while Bella was getting her backpack. I saw her get crushed. I was broken out of my daze by the squeal of tires, despite my boot, I had enough time to dive out of the trajectory of the swerving vehicle.
I was terrified. Immediately Jasper was at my side, and I was frantically scanning for Bella. "Edward saved her," I recall Jasper informing me quietly. "She's alive, not even a scratch. Let's go, we can drive you to the hospital to meet her."
At the hospital, Jasper admitted that he was not good with all the blood so I had to go in with the two Cullens I was the least comfortable with - Rosalie and Edward. We waited until the ambulance transporting Bella and Tyler arrived before I hobbled to the ER.
I remember my heart pounding as I stopped Edward after we had gone into to confirm Bella's well being. "Wait! Um, Edward... thank you for saving my sister," My fear made it almost come out like a question.
"No harm no foul," He nodded at me. "I haven't gotten a chance to apologize to you for our first meeting. I am truly sorry that you were put in that situation."
"Um," I break his gaze. "It's fine, I just need... time. Jasper told me about you and her. So just, just keep her alive."
"That's my intention."
As the weeks passed Bella and Edward inevitably grew closer. I knew he had been regularly stalking Bella at night thanks to Jasper, and Edward was lucky I had been relegated to my make-shift bedroom in the living room or else.

Today I had just been released from Forks Hospital, thankfully this time it had only been to get my cast removed and have a follow up with Dr. Cullen.
After the appointment, the first place I retreated to was my bedroom for the first time in nearly two months. It felt like the first time I could think clearly since breaking my ankle. I took this time to take inventory of what my life had become in these few weeks since Bella's arrival.
One, I survived death... kind of. Two, I - for once since moving to Washington - had a group of friends. Three, those friends were vampires. And last, I could feel something on the horizon and was utterly terrified.
My phone buzzed, taking me out of my thoughts.
Jasper: Hey, Alice told me you were back, do you want me to come over?
