I would have cried - if that was still possible for me - when I was first reunited with Carlisle and Esme; and later on with the rest of the family.

Once we made it to Alaska, Jasper is the first one to see me. We hug before exchanging a single word. His scars are so clear now, with my enhanced sight I could see every single bite mark, it made me angry. Jasper is quick to pick up on this shift, "What's wrong?"

I shake my head, "All of your scars, I can't imagine-"

"I can barely remember the pain anymore."

I wrap my arms around him once more. It's a quiet for several moments until...

"MARY," Emmetts voice booms. "Welcome to the family!"

We break apart and I see Emmett beaming on the porch walking towards us; he swiftly pulls me into a bear hug.

When he sets me down I am surprised to see Rosalie's icy demeanor has thawed, she now has a soft smile, "Glad to have you here, Mary."

"Uh," I was very much caught off guard. "Thanks."

I had been in Alaska for nearly a month. We had decided that it was best to not contact Bella; I knew she would be furious with me - if we ever reunited - but I was only starting to build up my tolerance around humans.

We kept to ourselves, Alice is still hopeful we would return to Forks so there was no point in moving on to a new school. Plus, I am still adjusting to humans: Alice and Rosalie tried to take me out shopping on a few occasions and each time I struggled immensely with my new thirst.

Rosalie and I had been on good terms. Since my arrival she had been much kinder to me than she had been in my human life. We were out hunting today, and unprompted she said, "I'm sorry."

I raise an eyebrow at her.

"For how I treated you before and... Bella too. I never wanted immortality and I still don't believe anyone who has a choice should choose this life. To be frozen: never grow old or have children," She admitted.

"What happened to you? Jasper mentioned Carlisle found you during the Great Depression."

Rosalie wore a rueful smile, "My story is not a happy one, although I did end up with Emmet, my human life ended tragically. I was beautiful, even as a human, and my family was well off. My father worked at a bank, and he would bring me gifts to enhance my beauty. My mother was the perfect housewife she... I have a hard time remembering some details from my human life... she had me deliver my lunch to my father's work one day. I was dressed to the nines, I recall her hoping I would catch the eye of the bank owner's son.
