It was the night before the wedding

It was the night before the wedding. Rather than a bachelorette party, Alice gave Bella strict instructions to get beauty sleep - knowing she would not be able to achieve that at the Cullen house where we would be frantically getting in the last minute preparations throughout the night under Alice's direction.

Edward, Jasper, and Emmett would be having a 'bachelor party' which really just meant hunting their favorite animals - solely for Edward who preferred the mountain lions.

Tonight was also when Alice would be preparing me for the big day, since tomorrow would be all about Bella.

"Don't leave me alone," I beg Jasper. "She's going to have me be her doll all night."

Jasper gives me a peck on the cheek, "No can do, Mary. Besides it means you can attend your sister's wedding."

"Okay fine, go have fun with the guys," I sulk back to the inside of the house for certain torture.

"Mary!" Aice chirps.

"What do you have in store for me? Should I be scared to ask?"

Her bell laugh rings throughout the entry way, "It won't be so bad, as long as you don't protest we can be done in a few hours."

"What are you even planning?"

"How do you feel about going blonde?"

I reflexively grasped for my hair, "No."

"A wig, silly," Alice shakes her head. "I've ordered a few... Of course, I know which one you'll ultimately end up wearing, but I thought you'd appreciate having options."

Upstairs in Alice's room she had several blonde wigs scattered on her vanity.

"Which one do I end up with?"

"Number 3, I thought with the blonde we could pass you off as one of the Denali's."

I grab the wig, but before I can put it on Alice stops me. Wig cap in hand, "This first!"

"The Denali's, from Alaska? I thought we weren't on good terms?"

"It's mostly Irina since she was mated to Laurent... the rest understand that Bella's life was in danger. Plus, weddings bring people together."

"Well it'll be nice to see them. Am I going under a fake name too? It seems like a lot of pressure."

Alice shakes her head, "No I think if you go by Mary it won't raise too much suspicion, plus the focus of the day will be on Bella not you."

I couldn't help but think back on my gran's words about Charlie, in the back of my head I was skeptical that he wouldn't be the tiniest bit suspicious of me.

Alice slides the wig on top of the wig cap - it's not styled, strawberry blonde hair with dark highlights that goes to my mid-back, "Now for styling, I was thinking some kind of braided half up half down - we want to partly obscure your face just so people don't look too closely."

The hair - even with Alice's super speed - takes an hour to finish.

"Now we're going to need Rosalie's help for makeup," Alice sings - this is obviously the highlight of her decade if not century.

On cue, Rosalie enters the room offering me a sympathetic smile, "Nothing too drastic, don't worry."

"I never wore makeup as a human so any make up is pretty drastic to me," I laugh.

Rosalie is fairly quick with the makeup, not doing so much with the eyes or lips, but focusing more on the shape of my face and highlighting certain features.

"What's next some glasses? And I becoming Clark Kent?" I tease once Rosalie's done.

"Maybe you're the psychic," Alice laughs holding up a pair of fake glasses. "The lens will obscure your vision slightly, but it's an added layer to prevent people from recognizing you."

I roll my eyes, "Ridiculous, I'll put these on before any of the guests arrive."

"You look beautiful," Rosalie assures me; coming from her that's a genuine compliment.

"Thanks, Rose."

"And finally, the dress - we only have a few options," Alice says as she takes out a rolling clothing rack from her walk in closet.

"Alice," I whine. "That's a bit more than a few options."

"This is what will take all night," Rosalie laughs.

"Alright let's get started."

~ ~ ~

By sunrise, we had settled on a light gold dress with that fell just above the knee with tool and floral lace cutouts. Alice and Rosalie had then gone to get themselves ready before continuing with the last minute preparations. The guys returned around the same time to help set up and get ready as well. Alice wanted to show off her work on me; moments before she saw their arrival she ushered me into the first floor bathroom despite my protests, "Alice, they don't-"

"Hush, they're here," She closes the door on me. "Welcome back!"

"Alice," I hear Edward say accusingly. "Are you torturing Mary?"

"Not at all, she is - if I do say so myself - my finest work yet."

"Well then let her out so we can see her," Jasper laughs.

On cue Alice opens the door revealing her 'masterpiece' to the three vampires. Emmett lets out a low wolf whistle which earns him an eye roll from Edward and Jasper. "Speechless?" I tease when neither Edward or Jasper say anything.

"You look very beautiful," Edward says politely.

I shift my gaze to Jasper nervously, not sure why I feel so nervous of his opinion. Jasper takes my hand and briefly brushes his lips across my knuckles, "Absolutely stunning."

"Get a room," Emmett groans.

"Okay you three need to get dressed and then we need to finalize all the details for the ceremony before Bella arrives. Go go!"
